This was on before...I won't state my opinion on it again though since many of us were chastized for it.

yeah, wasn't THAT fun I have strong opinions on this as well, but am overwhelmed by the tragedy of this story. But sleeping or not, in a 2 hour span of time Cailen was always checked on multiple times. However these parents were new and may not have had a routine down. From the very beginning dh and I would confirm who was bringing ds in from the car. This is so heartbreaking.

Re: How does this happen?? - baby left in hot car
events like this really make me sick to my stomach... I know the parents didn't do it intentionally... none the less, the babies are victims of circumstance, and suffer horribly

I hate hate hate these stories. That poor baby. I know that the family will have to live with this the rest of their lives, but this is a tragedy I will never understand.

Re: How does this happen?? - baby left in hot car
This makes me so sick, I hate hearing stories like this. The other day DH told me how he heard over the radio at work that one of his sister companies had a call that a 8 month old drowned in a bucket at a daycare.
How Can you not know!!!!!! I really feel sorry for that baby, I hope the little one did not feel a thing and was asleep the whole time

I usually always take Declan and Mike takes Ronan because they each, respectively sit behind us. I just read in a Parneting magazine that you should leave your purse in the backseat so you need to look back there. My heart goes out to these people. I am sure they will never forgive themselves

Re: How does this happen?? - baby left in hot car
its sooo sad, after carrying the baby for 9 months, then bonding with them once born... i always check on ds at least every half hour... and if i go to take a nap i triple check that he's napping first..if one of us brings him inside the other one always seems to check him right away to make sure he's settled.

Re: How does this happen?? - baby left in hot car
To me this seems to be completely irresponsible. So two grown adults in the same household with a young child dont check on the safety and well being of that child for 2 whole hours?
Really, completely irresponsible and unbelievable.

How does it happen? Just as the article said a miscommunication between parents. They each thought the other one took the sleeping baby into the room.
Most of the times, it's because of a change in schedule for the parents dropping off at daycare...
While I haven't left my sleeping children in a car, it CAN HAPPEN to all of us.
It's devastating to read, but it is a great reminder to all of us for the upcoming summer. Always double check your kids & call to check up on people who are driving your children.
ITA with this. This is a TRAGEDY, neither parents meant to intentionally harm their child.
Flame away, but I'm away right now and DS was sleeping in a pack and play right by a door, and he napped for two hours earlier and I didn't check him once b/c it woke him yesterday when I did, it is totally possible that mom thought dad brought baby in and put them in the cirb and vice versa

That's really f*cked up...I mean, I could see the miscommunication lasting for 10 minutes or something, but 2 hours?!?!

I just did it this afternoon.
I can absolutely see how this happened. As one of the OP said, the baby was probably sleeping in the car, and each thought the other brought the baby in and put the baby back down to sleep. It could absolutely happen to any one of us. DD naps so infrequently that when she DOES, I am not going in there to check for fear that the door will creak and I'll wake her up!
What a terrible tragedy. That would absolutely destroy me

No, not at all. I wouldn't call you that. The bottom line, IMO, is that it boils down to your own values and beliefs in regards to parenting and supervision. If not checking on your child for 2 hours is appropriate for you, then that works for you. It just doesn't for me. Thats all. This role of being a parent has no curriculum. So we each do it to the best of our capabilties and pray that our children turn out well.
