How early can they tell the sex from an ultrasound

Can they tell as early as 12 weeks from the ultra screen? When did you ladies get a positive gender? Thanks!

Re: How early can they tell the sex from an ultrasound

Well, I just found out today that I'm having a Chat Icon at my ultrascreen. I'm 12 weeks, 6 days. And it was REALLY obvious once she pointed out the "boy parts."

I would think that a girl might be just a little more complicated--they have to find the "3 lines" in order to say it's a girl.....but with my baby boy, he just let it all show for the tech!

The sono tech wouldnt even look during my ultrascreen, I was 12w 5d. I just went for my level II at 20 weeks and they were able to tell me I'm having a Chat Icon .

I've seen quite a few posts on here where the tech said that he/she wouldn't even venture a guess....which is why I wasn't even expecting to find out today. But, as soon as my tech had lined the baby up this afternoon, she asked me if I wanted to know the sex or not!!! Chat Icon I was extremely surprised...and questioned her "ability" to tell so early on. That's when she pointed out the "parts" and told me that even an untrained eye can tell what those are!!! Chat Icon

So, maybe the OP will luck out and have a great tech??? Who knows...it seems everybody on here has a different story. But, unfortunately my OB tech is in Rockland County...so, unless somebody wants to take a trip, she's not available. Chat Icon

At my ultrascreen the doc said he knew what we were having. I decided not to find out b/c my DH couldn't make it to that sono. However, the fact that he was so certain on the sex lead me to believe that I was having a boy. At my 20 week we were told Chat Icon

The radiologist said she was 95% sure it was a boy at our ultrascreen. The tech, on the other hand, pretty much told us not to paint the room blue just yet b/c it's still so early. We'll find out for sure on September 3rd!

They told me it was too early at the ultrascreen, but then the tech said, "he" while pointing out the various parts & I jumped the gun & even went out & bought an outfit to surprise DH with...then at the 20 wk. WE got the surprise when they told us it was a girl.

The tech at my ultrascreen told us what she thought was the sex. She did tell us they are very rarely wrong, but not to paint the room for the gender, buy anything of that gender related or tell people until my Level II where it can be confirmed.

Re: How early can they tell the sex from an ultrasound

They told me 12 weeks it was Chat Icon and we just found out at 20 weeks it was a Chat Icon . Granted it wasn't the sono tech but a dr' that took a guess a really random one, so I didn't trust him from the get go with the guess....they have been known to be right though at 12 weeks!!!

ETA: The sono tech REFUSED to take a guess she said it was way too early and a lot of times that early on they look the same!

My doc said 14 weeks he can tell with minimal error and by 17 weeks it was very clear I was undoubtedly having a girl.
