How far in advance do you tell teacher about a vacation?
How far in advance do you tell your child's teacher that they will be out of school for a few days for a family vacation?
My son is in kindergarten. I'd like his teacher to give us his classwork so he can stay on top of things. Do they typically send work home if you ask?

We are going away next month. I emailed the teachers with a question and mentioned to her that we are going away the end of February. She said she'll mark it down and to also call the main office as well to let them know for their records.
When I asked about school work she said that they don't send schoolwork home. Not sure if it's just a kindergarten thing or not, but said when he gets back she will get him up to speed.
I have a conf with her tomorrow and will remind her again as well as the bus drivers the week before.

It's not necessary to give a heads up longer than a day in advance unless you are requesting work, but keep in mind that many districts (such as the one I teach in) do not supply work in advance for vacations.

How far in advance do you tell teacher about a vacation?
We are not allowed to give work ahead of time. But most parents tell me about a week or 2 ahead of time.

Our school will not send home work in advance because they say it promotes truancy...They also will not send home HW if your child is absent that day...You will get it all when you get back to school.

My DD's school won't give the work in advance either. When we pulled her for Disney in October we actually mentioned it to her teacher at the Back To School night in September. We did that because she was going to miss 6 days of school so we thought it was best to give her an early heads up.
