How far off was your doctor on estimating babies weight?
Please state what the weight the doctor gave you was and then your actual babies weight. Thanks!

Re: How far off was your doctor on estimating babies weight?
When I had ds, the doctors at the hospital told me he weas very small 5 pounds up til the day I delivered. My OB was surprised when I delievered and he was 8.1! So I don't put too much faith in the sono estimates

Re: How far off was your doctor on estimating babies weight?
The Tuesday before I had Emerson they estimated she was 9lbs 7oz. I delivered her on Friday of that week and she was only 8lbs. 8oz. so they were off by basically a pound.
**They estimated the weight by u/s. They measure the circumference of the head and belly and they look at the level of amniotic fluid surrounding the baby in order to get an estimate of their weight**

Re: How far off was your doctor on estimating babies weight?
two days before birth the growth sono estimated (b/c they are not 100% accurate) that she was 5 lbs 8 oz....she was 5 lbs 14 oz.
and now 4 weeks later a whopping 8 lbs 2 oz...my girl likes to eat

Re: How far off was your doctor on estimating babies weight?
at 36 weeks the guess was 7 lbs 3 oz... which would have meant a 9.5 lb baby or more ay 40 weeks.... he was 8 lbs 9 oz

Growth sonos, but the doctor pretty much agreed b/c she had been measuring my belly too (fundal height, is that correct?)

Re: How far off was your doctor on estimating babies weight?
My dr felt my belly 2 weeks prior and said this is going to be over a 9lb baby. Just by feeling my belly.
She sent me for a growth sono 1 week before my EDD and they estimated 9lb 1oz. Another one 2 days before my EDD said 9lb 4oz....DS was born on his EDD at 9lb 14oz, so they were 10oz off.

Re: How far off was your doctor on estimating babies weight?
4 weeks before he was born, he was estimated to be 4lbs 3oz. He was born at 4lbs 12oz. We had intrauterine growth restriction due to blood clots on the placenta but we cannot tell when it started. So, we do not know if the estimate was off and he was smaller or if he hardly grew in the last 4 weeks.

My OB never told me before DD was born. Afterwards, he said she was smaller than he expected. She was exactly 7 lbs.

Two days before the tech told me the baby would be between 8.5-9lbs. No bigger than 9lbs - she stressed this actually. She also said she is NEVER wrong
Yea -- um - my kid was 9lbs 14ozs! She was this time!

Re: How far off was your doctor on estimating babies weight?
my doctor was WAY off. at 38.5 weeks, they estimated that DS was 8 lbs 12 oz. the doctor said that it could go a pound either way, but at that time, it would have meant that he was no less than 7 lbs. 12 oz.
he was born a full 8 days later at 7 lbs. 10 oz. the doctor stated that because he has a large head, that is probably what threw off the measurements of the growth sono.
i don't regret having a c-section but i would advise you to take ALL approximate measurements with a grain of salt!!
