How "Green" are you in your house?
Do you use natural cleaning products that you buy or do you make your own?
What do you find works?
TIA

I love Method products. You can find them at Target.
eta - I also use these instead of papertowels. I'll use papertowels (the select a size ones) for small jobs (countertop spills) but for wiping and cleaning, I like the reusable wipes.

Perfect for all of your household chores - inside and out. Re: How "Green" are you in your house?
We talked about this a while ago on the Home board and as a result, I downloaded some Seventh Generation coupons from their website.
My supermarket carried their stuff and I bought paper towels and laundry detergent. But when I got to the cashier, they said they don't accept internet coupons! So I wound up paying more probably than regular products.
I haven't used the laundry detergent yet but the paper towels were just like any other towels - except better for the environment.

Me too...I use their stuff for everything except dishwashing liquid, I tried the Method but it never got sudsy so went back to Palmolive. I also recycle paper and plastic and use organic fertilizer on the lawn.

Thanks...actual the organic fertilizer is definitely one we should be using seen as I have a 14mth old. I was thinking about ordering the book that deirdre imus has just bought out...supposed to be lots of tips in there..
What do you use on your floors? I bought eco floor at the weekend but found out I cannot use it on my hardwood floors. I was using vinegar and hot water but dont think it cleaned them properly.

We're a half and half household as far as cleaning products. We use environmentally friendly laundry detergent and some cleaning stuff (7th Gen, Trader Joe's brand, etc.), but some traditional stuff, to.

I use Seventh Generation and Method - love them. I recycle everything I can. As soon as my dishwashing detergent bottle is empty I am going to buy the environmentally friendly one and also laundry detergent.

I clean the kitchen with vinegar diluted with water and Lemons. A great way to clean the microwave is slicing some lemons, and putting them into a bowl with water. Place everything into the micro and blast it for about two minutes. Makes it smell very lemony.
I also use the Imus " greening the cleaning" products. Love 'em.

Re: How "Green" are you in your house?
being that we just moved in... i'm making some changes... we just bought a hot water heater "blanket" to use less energy in heating our water.
we recycle.
i craft A LOT and a lot of the time i use reclaimed items.
i'm going to cut up and then hem old towels to use in the kitchen instead of papertowels.
we keep our thremostat at 64 degrees.
as far as cleaners go, i honestly haven't looked into that.

Re: How "Green" are you in your house?
I've been using two beach bags and three paper bags with handles for food shopping for the last couple of weeks.
Not only is it faster & more convenient, the bags stay upright in the trunk instead of flopping all over the place.
And the stuff that might get messy goes in the beach bag with the plastic liner so I can just wash the liner if there's a spill.
I've gotten some strange looks but I hope people start noticing and doing the same thing. I have a huge collection of paper shopping bags with handles, so I don't think I'll run out anytime soon.

Re: How "Green" are you in your house?
Great idea for taking your own bags to the store...I am going to start this weekend. In Ireland they do not give out bags anymore...if you want one you have to pay for it so everyone brings their own....
