How late do you stay out with DC?
We have a family bbq about 1-2 hrs away from our house. It starts at 4pm. DD is two months old and her bedtime routine starts at 6:30. I have never been to their house before, so I dont know what to expect, but I dont expect them to have a place to put her down if she gets tired. They really dont care that DD is only two months and will be fussy at this time all they want to do is see the baby (which i totally understand), but I care because I will be dealing with it. They have been pestering non-stop about going and arent buying the reason that this is DD fussy time. She just started sleeping in her infant seat (confession: she only sleeps on her stomach and has been for a while). So, long story short is 7 or 8 pm too late for a two month old to be out?

At that age you can def. get away with it - I think personally.
Once my son started to hit 7 months or so was when I really needed to get home for his bedtime.
She'll probably fall asleep on the way home too.
I would go! Sometimes we really don't give our babies enough credit and think they'll be worse than they are!

I think it is definetely ok!! Hayley was a good baby. I would be able to lay her down in her stroller and she would sleep anywhere. She is still like this to this day! She can fall alseep in the car, I can put her in the stroller and walk around the mall and she will remain sleeping...she will be 3 in September

Re: How late do you stay out with DC?
DD is 2 months old and we have an Engagement party today (backyard BBQ). It also starts at 4PM (wonder if it's the same party..LOL)
HEr bedtime routine begins at 6:30 as well and she is in her crib at 7:00. I am bringing her comfort items with me..and my mil also has a crib at the house..so I will do her same routine and place her in the crib (hopefully she sleeps). If not, I will have her stroller and if all else fails...MY ARMS!!
Do it..you will enjoy being around people who are excited to see your DC and most likely..she will do FINE!!
Enjoy!!
ETA: With my DS, I went everywhere and never rushed home for his bedtime. When we are home..he goes down at 7PM and when we are out he is able to deal with being up past his bedtime or also falling asleep in his stroller/carseat or couch.

Re: How late do you stay out with DC?
I know this may come off as sounding selfish, but my kids have always adapted to our schedule, so if we had to go somewhere in the evening, they would come and we would just make sure we had what we needed for them (PJ's, stroller, even the pack and play if they needed to sleep). I could never, and this is me personally, just stay home from things because of my kids bedtimes. Now I'm not saying we're bar hopping at 11 p.m., but you KWIM. We enjoy our evenings out, especially in the summer. At 2 months old, very easily adaptable, so just go! and have fun!

ITA!!! Landon is 8 weeks old and he easily adapts to my schedule. Bring a stroller or the carseat for her to sleep in.

Re: How late do you stay out with DC?
Since Ava was born, we've always kept her out as long as we feel like staying out. It's not unusual for her to be out until 11pm with us or later if what we're doing warrants it. She's so flexible and goes with the flow. Every other night of the week she has a really good bedtime routine, so that helps to get her back on track the next day. We're really laid back and Ava loves being out and about, so she never gets cranky when we're out late. I feel lucky for that!

Re: How late do you stay out with DC?
We pick and choose now that DD is 7 months and has just started getting into a routine. She was 3 weeks old on Christmas Day and we were out with her until 11 PM because everyone wanted to see her.
I would say do what you as the mommy feel is best.

Re: How late do you stay out with DC?
I do have to say that I have a child that literally melts down at his bedtime. My family jokes that he has an internal clock and he knows it's time for bed. My DH and I switch with taking him home depending on whose family it is. This also didn't happen until he was 7-8 months old though. In the beginning we took him everywhere until any time of night.

Re: How late do you stay out with DC?
At 2 months I would have gone to something like this with DC. But now at 7.5 months, he melts down BIGTIME when we miss his bedtime, and the prospect of driving home with him screaming is not pleasant. He won't just fall asleep in a different environment either, i think he gets overstimulated and wants to check out everything going on around him. But at 2 months, he would pass out.
So if your baby is still passing out easily, go and enjoy. If not, I would skip it or just one of you (DH or yourself) should go.

Re: How late do you stay out with DC?
At 2 months old you can be out as late as YOU want, you can just put the baby to sleep in the infant carrier or stroller! I dont think you really have to be concerned about being home for their bedtime until they are toddlers, and they are on a schedule....
I personally never missed or went home early to put my kids to bed-I took their PJs, blankie, and whatever other comforts they needed and let them sleep in a stroller-whereever we were!
Enjoy your life now while your kids still go by YOUR schedule!!!

Re: How late do you stay out with DC?
I think its fine! DS goes to be religiously at 9pm but when we are out I can usually get him to fall asleep in my arms and then I put him down on the floor in a bedroom, or at that age when they arent moving a bed would do.
IMO its important to keep a routine but you also want your DC to be somewhat flexible and I think the earlier you start the easier it is! I work around DSs bedtime as much as possible but I dont want to completely confine us as a family!
And as a PP said, your DC will probably fall asleep on the car ride home.

I couldn't agree more. We have always taken DD everywhere with us. People are always surprised how good she is and while I think that it is partially a personality thing, I think that it is also because we did it from day one.
Now at almost 2 it is a little more difficult sometimes getting her to sleep in a new place, but I have friends who kept their kids on a really strict schedule from the beginning and now they can't do ANYTHING.
Babies are very adaptable - so go and have a good time!!!
