I've always thought of newlyweds as that for the first year.

Re: How long are you a NW for?
I'm breaking the rules by posting here since my anniversary was last week...
I always thought it was the first year after you get married.

Re: How long are you a NW for?
I always thought it was 2 years, but recently a friend told it me it was until you had kids. Why does your marriage have to be defined by having kids? what if you never do?
My vote would be 1 or 2 years. I know I felt a lot less like a newlywed after the first year

I guess the "newlywed" feeling phase dies out when kids come into the picture because the focus is seriously adjusted at that point.
I'm not saying this was my answer... I'm just assuming this is the intent behind anyone who voted "when you have kids".

Newly wed until you have kids!
Oldywed crashing..
ehhhhhh i don't think this is a good definition because what if you never have kids or if you have to wait years to have a child due to IF issues?
I always thought of the newlywed phase lasting until the 2nd anniversary.
DH and I are married 3.5 years already and no kids, and definitely don't consider ourselves newlyweds. that phase is long gone!

yeah, another OldyWed crashing too
i'm coming up on my 5 yr anniversary i'd say anywhere from 6 mos to a year was 'newlywed' phase for us
i also don't agree with anyone who says you're a newlywed until you have kids.. frankly it's a little insensitive to people who may have chosen to not have kids, or even worse, are having IF issues.

Re: How long are you a NW for?
I always thought it was just the first year but I think it depends on the couple. My best friend's parents are sooo in love and still have that spark - the relationship they have is just amazing. So I think it's all in the attitude. Again, I'm also not saying you need to feel like a newlywed in order to be happy either.

Re: How long are you a NW for?
I think we stopped feeling like NW around the 1.5 year mark. Now it's back to feeling like an old married couple (which is how we felt even before we got married)

Re: How long are you a NW for?
in my case, DH has a big family so to me, we were newlyweds until the next cousin or sibling got married. Because then all the "how's married life" comments defaults to them.

I always thought it was just your 1st year. I never heard either 2 yrs or till you have kiddies. Either way thats cool. I'm happy to stay in newlywed lovin status for as long as possible.

Re: How long are you a NW for?
If you're a newlywed until you have kids then DH and I never were and never will be newlyweds since he has full custody of his daughter from another relationship...so I vote after a year.
