How long do I keep him away from other kids after Coxsackie?
DS got sick last Tuesday and was officially diagnosed on Wednesday with Coxsackie. His blisters are gone and the fever has been gone since Sat.
With that being said: He has this cough that comes out about once every 20 minutes. (Literally one cough.) It sounds deep, but the dr said it's from post nasal drip from his molars emerging.
When would you allow him to play with others? We are going nuts here!
If you were a mom and heard a child with a random cough, would you be mad to be playing with him?
Please give me your honest opinions. TIA!

He should be 100% fine to be around other kids now!
I know that once blisters are gone they are ok and no longer contagious. We just went through it as you know...the kids in the class were out about 5 days total, which seems about right.
**Edited to add..if I got mad every time I heard a kid with a random cough, i'd be mad all the time, lol!! I feel like kids always have a cold or cough or something. The ONLY time i get annoyed is when a child is very obviously sick and you can tell they aren't well at all and they are still at playgroup. Other than that, doesn't bother me at all!

Your DS should be absolutely fine now! My ped said Thomas could go back to daycare 24 hours after his fever broke. Another child in Thomas' class also had coxsackie and her ped said 24 hours after last blister dissapears. Difference of doctor's advice here... but either way your DS is clear!
I wouldn't be mad at all about the cough!!

DD has coxsaxie now, but no blisters. Does that mean we're no where near the end yet? She was diagnosed on Monday and I am already going stir-crazy sitting in the house!

I had heard the same as the girls above. If the fever is gone, or the blisters are gone, then should be good. I guess I was just nervous what other moms thought if he went out with a little cough.

Thanks! DD never got blisters, so I am worried we aren't out of the woods yet. At 9 her temp was normal, but she has also been on Motrin since Monday.
This is her first real illness in a long time!

there are many strains of coxsackie, some blisters you won't be able to see (in back of throat) and other strains make them appear on the hands&feet or butt area...it really depends.
If you DO see blisters, they are contagious until they are gone. For the strains where there aren't any the rule is when the fever breaks...but I would prob err on the side of caution and keep them away from other kids for one additional day..it is SO contagious it's crazy!!

If the blisters are gone, and the fever is gone, Michael can play with Marianna and I won't get mad.
