how long does aspartame stay in my system? (bm question)
i NEEDED diet coke last night, so i pumped and dumped then and also this morning (i'm also in the process of drying up my milk).
I just pumped a few minutes ago, do i still need to dump it or can i save it for DD?

I'm sorry but why are you pumping and dumping after a Diet Coke? I've never heard of pumping and dumping after a soda...2-3 glasses of wine yes, but not soda...

According to Hale (Medications and Mothers' Milk, 2004), Nutrasweet (aspartame) levels in mother's milk are too low to produce significant side effects in infants who do not have PKU (phenylketonuria). It IS contraindicated in babies with proven PKU. Hale lists aspartame in Lactation Risk Category L1 (safest), but L5 (contraindicated) if baby has PKU.

the amt that is passed through is prob so slim...there is no need to dump for a diet soda! I drank alcohol and didnt dump. I think you are ok!

OMG I would be in big trouble if I had to p&d after every diet drink!! I drink diet soda, Crystal Light and diet Snapple ALL the time!! No one ever told me not to, and I've never heard of having to dump milk because of it. My DS is perfectly healthy! I wouldn't worry about it unless you are drinking a fridge-pack full at once.

I'd be more worried about the caffeine than the aspartame. My DD was really sensitive even to small amounts - it would mess up her naps.

Both my OB and my ped both said OK to an occasional diet soda - and told me NOT to pump and dump.
