how long does it take to hear from EI?

I called to inquire about services.for.my son. He is almost 16 months and still not walking. He may not even qualify, but i thought i would call anyway. The woman who answered the phone said that Someone will contact me to ask me for more info. And to set up a meeting with DS. About how long should i expect to wait to hear from someone??????

I would contact your ped first to see if he thinks its a medical issue. I don't believe they start giving EI services for just walking until they are over 18 months.

My ped. Said to call him at 17 months if he still wasnt walking, but my cousin is a pediatric PT who gives EI services and she recommended i call ASAP. I figured why wait? The worst that could happen is that he doesnt Qualify.

I think the service coordinator called me within the week of me calling them to request services.

My DS was referred for speech at 15 months, and had just started walking. When I met with the EI coordinator, she suggested the PT eval and as it turned out his scores for PT was lower than for speech. The ped's office wasn't concerned about PT, I am not sure they refer as quickly for that.

they have up to 5 working days to contact you. 30 days for all evaluations to be done.

at 16 months, unless there are other issues he most likely will not qualify for PT. walking isnt considered late until after 18 months

my DS who is ASD didnt get PT, and he didnt walk until 16 months 3 days

I heard within a few days (this was for Suffolk EI). I thought the process was going to be very long and drawn out but it was fairly quick... I also happen to be very pushy (my DH calls it naggin ). Keep records of when you call and don't be afraid to keep calling. Good luck!
