How long does it take to renovate a kitchen?

How long does it typically take to renovate a kitchen, from start to finish? Ordering cabinets, etc? We are not talking about moving walls, maybe making a window larger.

There are a lot of factors. Assuming you aren't doing any custom order cabinets or counters, and that the contractors come every day, all day long, I'd estimate 2 weeks. More likely, probably closer to 3, though.

How long does it take to renovate a kitchen?

My cabinet order took 6 weeks. It's been 6 weeks of Reno So far with at least 2 to go, but we took down a wall, added wood floors and had existing floors sanded etc, and my contractor does not come everyday (we agreed to this in advance). A friend had a complete renovation done in 3 weeks.

Id say 3 weeks is about average. That's how long it took us... We went down to the studs and removed a portion of the wall

I was told 6-8 weeks for a smaller scale renovation but that it could easily spiral out of control and take many months if your job doesnt stay on schedule.

We started planning our kitchen in Dec (meeting with contractors, figuring out what we wanted) and I think we chose a company in Feb. I think we finalized a design in April. We started demo 5/30 and had a functioning kitchen before July 4th weekend. Finished up some odds and ends the week of July 7th, and refinished floors the week of July 14th. We are now back in our house and are hoping to finish up final carpentry work (base mouldings, backsplash tile and some other small odds and ends) the week of Aug 11th (we want to skip next week because of our work schedules). We probably could have moved things up a little but we have had my MIL visiting and we wanted to make sure to give the floors extra time. Then we still have to paint, etc.

But, we did a big job with custom cabinetry. Complete gut of kitchen including removing a wall, complete change of floorplan, gut of downstairs powder room, some minor work in dining room (new windows, new mouldings) and den (demo of a built in etc) and refinishing all of our downstairs hardwood. I actually thought it would take longer based on horror stories I've heard...

We did our own and gutted it and ran all new plumbing and electrical and finished it in one month. This was mostly working weekends but did have a few week days in there too.

We ordered our cabinets and they took a few weeks. But we only started the work when they were due in. All in it took about 3 weeks. It would have been less if we worked everyday during the week but it was mostly weekend work.

We're going through one now—just started yesterday. Our contractor said soup-to-nuts figure on 8 weeks, but we will be able to start using it in about 3-4. We just probably won't have countertop and backsplash in yet (countertop has to be templated and takes a couple of weeks). Our cabinets are in, sitting in our garage, but they took about 5-6 weeks, so keep that in mind.

Templating takes a few weeks? We had our countertops templated 2 days after all cabinets were in, then we went in 1-2 days later to do the layout on the slabs, and then they were fabricated within a few days and installed. I think the whole process took a week. we were functional in just over a month because I was able to sweet talk our electrician into fitting us in early so he could make the connections for our appliances.

Our job would have been significantly quicker if we did tile floor rather than refinishing hardwood -- the process of doing the floors plus waiting to get back in the house and waiting to be able to do work on them has delayed us although I didnt care as much as long as the kitchen was operational. But base moulding and final details are going ahead next week

Our Fabricator came and measured the day the Cabinets were installed they came back and installed 2 days later. We had the tiling done before the cabinets. It took the kitchen guys 2 days to install so Monday Tuesday, Countertop came Thursday and plumber and appliances came Friday. We painted that weekend and backsplash was done the following weekend.

My friend just had hers completely re-done, including moving a wall ( and I think creating a pantry) and it took 8 weeks.

I was shocked kitchens take so long!

Mine is so tiny-- I hope it can (eventually) be done faster than that.
