How many bottles of wine for a party?
How many bottles do you think we need?
40 adults, Sunday afternoon - christening party
Off hand, I would say that there are about 10 solid wine drinkers - not sure about the rest.

To be safe, I would use 2-3 glasses/adult as a guide - I think that would be max for a Sunday afternoon party. I would think 12-13 bottles.

For parties I usually get the liter and half bottles and get 3 of pinot and 3 of merlot.

I always say get more than you think you'll need. You don't want to run out during the party.
The holidays are right around the corner so whatever you don't use can be used for entertaining then or as gifts.

3 wine drinkers went through 5 bottles at my house last night 
Honestly though for a Sunday afternoon christening, I don't think you need that much. I'd prob do the big bottles - 2 red, 2 white.

Good point about the holidays coming around and they won't go to waste. DH and I are not wine drinkers ( I know, we are weird  ) so I have no clue about this stuff.
