How many new COVID+ results are reported in your school district daily?

We have been receiving reports of 4-5 new COVID positive students or staff per day in our school district. We are not considered a cluster zone yet that requires 20% random testing to stay open but they have asked us if we would consent when the time comes. Are you also receiving the daily reports of new cases? Are you consenting your kids to random testing? I just don’t know if I should keep my kids in school right now. They are in hybrid 2 days a week with about 10 kids in the class at a time.

Yep and as long as they stay open my kid is going.

We have multiple cases reported a day, sometimes just a few, sometimes around a dozen. We’re a small district. DOH is concerned that spread is potentially happening within 2 of our schools. We’re not a designated microcluster, but bc of the # of cases, they did start voluntary testing this week.

ETA: I am still sending my children and I did not consent to testing.

I teach in a large district. 550-600 students per grade level. We’ve had to “pause” school two times in my building. Other buildings have also paused instruction. The district only pauses due to staffing shortages. Too many people need to quarantine or people need to telework because their child/children are quarantined and the district can not get enough subs. We get anywhere from 5-15+ cases per day. At this point, I have only 3-5 students showing up for in person learning (per class) since most of their parents do not think it is safe. I would like random testing but the district will not start until Cuomo makes them.

I live in a smaller district (250 kids per grade level) and there are 0-3 cases reported per day. They have not started testing but they have us fill out each day on the daily survey if we would participate in random testing. We would. They went over the procedure and testing. They’d actually let you know the day ahead of time and have those students arrive before the other students and parents would be present.

They go to Catholic school. We havent had a problem until just recently. My son is on a quarantine (the whole kindergarten class had to quarantine, he is fine, goes back to school Friday) trying to do remote learning with the kids is an absolute nightmare. Thankfully my job allowed me to work from home during this time but it's so hard to make sure he is on and participating while trying to work at the same time. If you choose to keep them remote, as is your choice, just make sure you have the resources and stamina to make sure they do the work because of they fail guess who's fault is? Not the teacher's...

We are in a yellow zone and started back last week for the first time after Thanksgiving. Our numbers were really high for the first round of yellow zone testing so our county DOH asked us to stay closed (there is question to the accuracy of the tests as people tested negative two days later elsewhere but it doesn’t matter now).

There have been 11 positive cases district wide since we’ve reopened. A lot of them have been students who hadn’t been in buildings in months but some have been. BUT there are numerous staff members throughout the district who are in quarantine from outside exposures and many kids opted to stay full remote because they were sick of being put in quarantine.

My 5th grader has gone back his 3 in person days since we’ve resumed hybrid, but has received remote instruction this week for 1/3 of his classes because his main teacher was quarantined. My 3rd grader went last week for his two days but is full remote this week as he is one of three kids in the class who didn’t go full remote or is in quarantine so they strongly suggested we switch to remote for our one in person day.

I would say we get 2-5 students or staff every day. 90% of the time, its staff or a high school student. If I had to guess, I would say there are about 3,500 students in the entire district.

ETA: Elementary and middle school are in school full time. I'm not 100% on what the HS does but I believe it is still a hybrid plan. The high school had to be closed for a week before the holidays due to a party.

Yes daily reports about 3-8 TBH. We have been staying open as long as the school district gets notified with enough time to properly sanitize the schools. Tonight we got a late robo call that two schools in our district would be closed because they were alerted too late in the day about positive cases so there was not enough time to properly sanitize. The new normal for now...sucks

We get at least up to 6-8 new cases per day.
I do worry when they go back 4 days a week in Feb. The higher the number of kids in the building, not only do I worry him them getting it, but having ti have to quarantine. He is involved with sports as well.

Ours is sent via email by school so currently about 2 daily for the MS. The NY report card shows much lower case counts for our elementary schools. It’s our MS and HS students and teachers. Also, we currently have more MS students on full remote (by choice) than the hybrid. Started the year at 37% full remote.

We get emails form school every time a person tests positive or is exposed.
School was closed the last ten days due to two cases.
DS is now under quarantine due to exposure for fourteen days.

20% random testing consent is mandatory for NYC schools.

IN DD's school, there have been about 5 cases reported. They had the middle schoolers on remote for a few days and then the whole school went remote last week.
Everyone is back in now.

We have been getting a lot of calls about 5-6 cases a day at the high school. I'm guessing it's the aftermath of the holiday gatherings, and the HS kids have never followed the rules anyway.

My DD is in Pre-K so I kept her fully remote. If she was older, I would've sent her in, but I feel like the main purpose of nursery/pre-k is socialization and that is completely missing from this school year.

I also wouldn't have felt comfortable having her get randomly tested without me there or sent to an isolation room whenever she coughed or said she didn't feel well, which is the school's policy.

The school is in Queens and is on the cusp of a red zone (literally the parking lot is in the red zone) so they have to do the 20% testing, they should have been doing it since October. Last week was the first time they did it and the results took 4 days and resulted in 2 positive cases and half the school going remote for 2 weeks. It's being handled so poorly that I'm glad I don't have to deal with the in school headache.

Thanks for the feedback. We decided to send the kids to school today after the schools were fully remote since before thanksgiving break.I don’t see the current positivity trend going down any time soon and I just can’t keep them home for another month. They have started to have anxious behaviors like chewing on toys and wetting the bed(elementary aged). They need to see their friends and teachers and have some sense of normalcy a few days a week.

In the fall there were maybe a couple per week. Now its 3-4 per day for entire school district. Limited quarantines though because of all the safety measures in place. The positives should change soon though because WHO just said they were changing the PCR test because there were too many false positives for C-19 and the test was detecting dead virus and/or other corona viruses.

I only get notified about DD's school, not the whole district. There have been a couple cases each week.

They can test her all they want if it means she stays in school. They use a a self administered saliva based test, so its not invasive (though it is a PITA- who knew 5 year olds were bad spitters)?

I would not keep her remote by choice. In fact, we are researching private schools that have full day in-person instruction in case the public schools continue this absurdity next year. Which, believe me, is the last thing I want to pay for on top of my obscene school taxes. But there comes a point where you have to abandon a broken system.
