How many pizzas should I order?
30 kids (under age 3) and 40 adults.
We will also be serving sandwiches, pasta, fruit and salad.

i tend to always over order on food but i am thinking i would do at least 7 pies

I had the same thing last month. We had 25 kids from 1-6 and a few older plus 40 adults. I ordered 8 pies. Three were untouched. But hey, better to have too much than not enough.

I think 5 or 6 would be good. Have them cut it in 16 rather than 8 slices.

i always figure at least ONE whole slice per child, but have them cut half of the pies into 16s
so 5 or 6 pies should be MORE than enough, esp since you are having sandwiches

No more than 6 pies. I had exact number you had and I bough 9 pies and had 4 leftover.
