How many times a day do you feed your pup?
She's almost 1 and I'm wondering if I'm feeding her enough.
What is the right amount to feed a small dog? She's a 10 pound Shih Tzu. TIA!

I have a 4 lb yorkie I just leave a full bowl for him to graze all day. He hardly gains weight so I make sure it's unlimited. My 80lb dog only gets 2 cups a day as per the vet due to a weight gain issue. I think the amount just depends on the type of dog and size.

My Shihtzu turned 1 in January and I have noticed a great slow down when he is eating. For the past few weeks he doesn't even want to eat Breakfast and he takes forever to eat dinner. I am going to talk to the vet to see if maybe only feed him once a day. To answer your question I feed him about 1/4-1/3 cup of food 2x a day.
My parents have a yorkie and she gets fed once at dinnertime and then treats during the day.

I have a 9 lb Shorkie and I give her 1/2 cup 2X a day, but she usually only eats once a day and I leave food out for her just incase.

I have a 4lb Yorkie puppy and I feed him twice a day. If he doesn't eat in the morning I give him a little extra at night and leave the bowl down until morning and he usually finishes it before he goes to bed.

I feed my yorkie pup three times a day - wet food (about 1 can day or two days) and keep a tiny bowl of dry food out all day. The night time feeding stays out till the morning. Sometimes I keep the breakfast and lunch out longer cause he wont eat it. He is also on this crazy diet of wet food pureed with water and syrup - im guessing cause he is a teacup and can get hyperglycemic. He is a divo

I fill her bowl about half way and leave it there for her to nibble on throughout the day. In the morning I give her two pieces of turkey and then for dinner I give her some chicken with a piece of cheese or some turkey again. I find this helps her eat more since she isn't eating her food. When I mix it, she gets some of her food in, but still spits out most of the dog food and eats the other food.
Is this bad? I want to make sure she is getting the nutrients she needs. TIA

I think usually after a year you can take them off puppy food. But you can always check with your vet also.

Usually at the year mark, but ask your Vet because it might depend on the breed as well.

My Shih Tzu's are 14 lbs and 10 lbs and I feed them once a day. Usually around 3:00. They eat bolied chicken with one cup of white rice wth a sprinkle of cheese. The bigger one has has some gastro-intestinal problems in the past and I contine to keep him on this diet just in case. My little one too b/c I'd rather be safe then sorry.
Now I have a lab too and he gets 3 cups of dry food 1x a day. The littleer guys pick at that too.
Not much help am I?-LOL
