How much Cash needed at Disney?

I know we are going to get a card (for room, food, souvenirs that goes to your credit card-like going on a cruise). Wondered how much actual cash we should have to walk around with us?
Thanks :)

Re: How much Cash needed at Disney?

We are going in September and have been discussing this also. Since we have the meal plan...we aren't sure what we need. We are going for 5 days, so we are thinking between $500-$700.

What do you guys think?

Thanks. How much cash would you actually carry though? I am thinking about $100.

I start with $200 in cash - this is for tips, taxis, bottle of water here or ice cream there, magazine or something at the airport. It adds up & goes fast.

They have ATM machines there if I need more.

I think we brought $500 for 7 days. Everything went on the Key to the World card. We hardly used the cash. Basically we just paid our CC off when we got home.

Re: How much Cash needed at Disney?

I hardly carry any cash in Disney- everything can go on your room key- even the occasional bottle of water- I think we maybe had $150 on us and it wasnt necessary at all

Re: How much Cash needed at Disney?

Is there a way to preload your key to the world card? Or make payments as you go along. I know you can do that on cruises. We prefer to deal in cash so we can keep track. We also got the meal plan for free!!

We always bring cash on vacations and leave whatever we don't need for that day in the room safe.

Well if you plan to put most things on your room card you really don't need much. I think we never walked around with more than $20-40 at a time since most everything you can use your room card for (unless you plan to leave WDW for other parks or restaurants or plan to take a taxi while on property). Last trip I don't think we used any of the cash we brought except for tips for say bell services etc.

As far as budgeting - depends on how much shopping you will do and how you want to pay for it, meals, snacks etc you can go to allearsnet.com and check out all the menus for the carts, counter service and sit down restaurants in WDW and use that to budget food if you plan to eat outside of the dining plan (your 3rd meal or snacks).

Just like on a cruise, it goes straight to the credit card. We always take all our receipts from the day and minus what we budget to bring with us.

I'd probably bring around $300 in cash.

When are you going? We're going in 3 weeks.

Re: How much Cash needed at Disney?

DH brings $250 to $300 for 7 days. But he pays cash for EVERYTHING. I use my debit card so I don't carry that much cash. we don't use our room keys as charge cards so we can keep a better hold on our spending.

that's not true. you can give them cash when you check in and it will go on your account. When you spend with your room key, it will deduct that amount from your credit balance on your account.

If you present a credit card at check in, once the cash credit is gone, it will still allow you to charge and once you reach the resort limit ($500 for value resorts, forget the rest), then your credit card is charged in one shot, then the limit is reset again.

If you don't want to give cash at check in, you can give your CC and then each night go to the desk and pay off your day's worth of charges in cash.

Thanks. I am actually going to leave the cash at home and charge it all but didn't want to go without something in case they didn't take debit or cc's.
