How much do I give my 80 year old grandfather for his wedding???
My grandfather is getting married in a month and I have no idea how much I should give?
It's at a reception hall, flowers, DJ, the whole nine.
Do I give what I would normally give at a wedding??
The whole thing is a little weird to me because my grandmother died a little over a year ago. They were happily married for over 50 years. So I'm kinda not crazy about this whole thing. I want him to be happy. But this hoopla of a wedding is just strange to me.
I'm not looking forward to it....so I guess that's why I am asking.

Can you buy them something rather than giving him money?

I wouldn't give money to my grandfather - just seems weird to me. I'd give a gift or gift certificate to a restaurant.
and good for them for finding love again at 80! that is worth celebrating!

I guess giving an actual gift is a better idea. I doubt they are registered though.

I've always heard that etiquette wise, you are not supposed to give money to those older than you. So I would opt for an actual gift. Maybe something meaningful with their names and wedding date engraved on it.

I think a gift certificate to a nice restaurant would be a great gift. You could include it with a really nice bottle of wine (if they drink wine).

Are they religious? You can give them something beautiful regarding their religion. My grandma got me and DH some wonderful religious pieces for our wedding and it was way more meaningful than $$$ (which to our surprise she also gave!).

I think this is a great idea. That is what we did when my MIL got remarried at 65 many years ago. They really didn't need money or things for their home, but enjoyed going out.

That is a tough one. I don't think I would give money either. I would do a gift card somewhere.
