How much do speacialty birthday cakes typically run?
And recommend your place if you were happy with your cake - I'm in the Huntington/Northport area... thanks!

I don't know anything up in Northport - but for the last bday party I had in July for my 4 year old I ordered a specialty cake. It was an amazing Guitar shaped red velvet cake with raspberry filling. It looked and tasted amazing and was about 80 dollars when all was said and done. I got it here at Audrey's bakery.

I've had a lot of cakes from speciality bakeries and honestly, some of the freshest/moistest cake I've ever had has been from BJ's and Costco.
They will even put a pic on it for you. You can take a pic of the Brown Bear book, give it to them and they will screen it on the cake.
I had this for my DH's cake at the rehearsal brunch and instead of spending $250 on a guitar shaped cake, I got one with a pic of his guitar on it for $15.

I got a sheet cake of Elmo at Carvel and it was $75 so cute too.

Giglios on Larkfield Road is awesome! They did Bryan's Elmo cake.
If you look in the community coupon booklet, they may have a 10% off coupon as well.
I think I paid $70-75, somewhere in there.

I ordered a 8" in round with a specialty design from Reinwald's and it was $45.00. I had a sheet cake in addition.

The cake I'm getting for Jack's birthday is going to run about 250.00 - but it's a pretty detailed cake from a private baker.
