How much do text messages cost?
this may be a dumb question but, we don't have that option on our cell phone plan... just wondering how much extra it costs (on Verizon).
does anyone know?

I know that its free to text to other verizon users...
the charges vary from plan to plan
could be .25 cents or more

i have verizon and for $5 dollars a month we get unlimited texting. I can't remember what we paid before that.

i blocked texting because my friends would text me nonstop - .15 a message was adding up to an extra $6-7 + tax every month.

Apparently they bumped it up to $10 a month for "IN" and 500 additional. They told me the $ 5 plan for "IN" wasn't available anymore when I renewed in Dec..were they full of crap?

No, they're telling the truth - it's not available anymore. We have the $10 IN texting + 500 additional to anyone else.

it dpeneds when you got your contract.
I have 5 bucks for 250 text msg (signed up almost a year ago) but if you have a share plan, now you get unlimited included in your local rate.
i would sign up online at verizon to view your account. you can see everything and make changes
texting is overated imo but DW likes to commnicate so i text back..normally via email

Whew, between you and MrsPowers I feel better now. It's just that when we renewed the guy was kind of shady. He told us he was throwing in some bonus cases and car chargers and then we saw later he charged us for them! Babyboy, I'm going to check online to see what else I can do.. $130 for the lowest amount of minutes allowed for 2 people is killing me.

did he give you two seperate calling plans instead of 1 shared?

I agree - that's insane!
Rich and I have the smallest # of minutes - 700 i think - (almost everyone we call is "IN", so we're always fine with minutes) - free nights, weekends - we don't text, no internet on the phones, no extras, etc... 19% discount for teaching, and our TOTAL bill for 2 phones is no more than $72/month. And the "new every 2" still applies, so we get new free phones every 22 months.

Yeah we have 700 minutes with shared, we both have the $10 "in" text messages, insurance and he has internet access. I'm going to created an account and see if we can bang it down a little

I have Cingular -- $5 extra for all text messages in/out of network for all phones that share the minutes.
I don't think I've gone over more than 3 messages a month since I added that service. Oh well!

I think it all depends on when you got the contract. We pay $107 for our Shared Plan of 700 minutes plus IN Texting.
I have to look into that teaching discount - my husband teaches college!
