How much is the tooth fairy's going rate now?
I'm watching Yo Gabba Gabba and it's all about teeth today. I love that Amy Sedaris is the tooth fairy, genius!
I think it was a dollar for me growing up.
How much was it when you were little?
How much is it now or how much will you give per tooth?
Most importantly, did you believe she was real?

For me growing up i think i got 50 cents  and was so excited to get it. I 100% believed in the tooth fairy.
My dd is only 18 months old so hasnt lost any teeth yet, but i plan on giving her $1. Although a few of my friends are big spenders and have given their kids 5 bucks a tooth.

DD just lost her 1st tooth in Disney. It was a traumatizing experience for her, to say the least! So, The tooth fairy gave her $20 to buy something with. My m-i-l also sent a gift basket from "tinkerbell" to our hotel room. For the 2nd tooth, we'll only give a buck or two...

With the economy you'd think the tooth fairy would get pretty cheap 
I think my sister gives $5. I could be wrong. I got $1 when I was a kid and got sooo excited. Maybe the first tooth the tooth fairy will be special and give something nice along with a toothbrush, special paste, stickers, etc. After that it's down hill. LOL! Although we don't want to set the bar too high.

I never got money for teeth, my mom's family had a tradition that is so cute, I'm going to continue it with DS.
We hide the teeth in a piece of bread, and throw the bread on the roof, or put it up a tree and offer it to the birds, as birds don't have teeth.
I love this tradition, because each time we did I learned something new about biology, ecosystems, evolution and developed a love for dinosaurs (as the are the related ancestors to birds) Worth so much than the couple of dollars, even if I didn't it see it that way then.

My DD just lost her first tooth and we decided on $5 for the first tooth and $1 for all the rest. The average from what I got with the conversation at my daughters preschool was $5-$20 for the first tooth and either $1 or $5 for each tooth after. One mom I spoke to said $50-$100 for the first tooth and $20 for each tooth after that. I told her she was gonna go poor paying for all those baby teeth! Another mom bought a bunch of toys for her son. He woke up to a mini Christmas!

I love this idea but...
you don't save the teeth??? My mom freaked out when I swallowed my first tooth. She went through great (disgusting) lengths to try and find my tooth.

I guess that's one way of looking at it.
I realized that I didn't answer my own question.
I think I'm going to give my son the same as me, a dollar. I never, ever believed in the tooth fairy. I was always the skeptic.

In our house, the first tooth gets a gold coin (Sacagawea dollar) and then each one after that get a $1 bill or a piece of jewelry from the $1 section.
DS is waiting rather impatiently for his first loose tooth, he can't wait to get his gold coin.
