How often do you run out of work?

I'm a spurt worker Meaning, I work in spurts where I get SOOOOOOOOO much work done, but then I end up having nothing to do, and I'm bored. People are always telling me to slow down, and pace myself, but it goes against every fiber of my being. But, the problem is, I end up running out of work, quite often, and then I'm bored.

Please tell me I'm not the only one...

Never. There are times when I have no pressing deadlines, but there is always something I could be doing.

me also but then again I think its the nature of the business....I work for a law firm and sometimes we are really busy and others, when we are just finishing up with a deal, its slow!!

I always run out of work. Most of my work comes in in the morning. So once it's all done, I'm sitting and waiting for more projects to come in.

When I used to work, that was exactly my problem. I'd work my butt off, get everything done and then stand around bored, asking other people if they needed help.

Never. I am just a master procrastinator when I am unhappy.

Actually you reminded me of when I went from retail to corporate america. what a CULTURE SHOCK.
Although I was not on the sales floor in retail (buying office). Any NYC buying office works at insane speeds. So I was used to working like a lunatic, nonstop.

Then I switched careers and went into Project management in I.T. and it was such a slower pace. I was losing my mind in the beginning, I kept asking for more work I had lots to do but nothing had to be done YESTERDAY like in retail

THat, and also when I student taught in 3rd grade for 6 wks, and then went to 1st grade for 6 weeks, I thought I was going to die. The slow down of pace made me nuts. I was having withdrawals of not doing enough. and the teacher barely wanted help with anything, which was nice of her, but made me completely crazy.

You can see where my mind is at...

I interpreted this title as: How often do you run out....meaning LEAVE, vamoose, scram, hit the bricks screaming and trying not to lose your mind from the tedium and imprisonment feeling of a windowless office.

My answer would be never, but I sure do dream about it.....

there's always something i could/should be doing, but like you i like to do a lot of work quickly and then take a few hours off!

My problem is that when I am slow, I DRAAAAGGG out my last assignment, which I shouldn't really do, especially since there is only so much time I can bill for an assignment. I get very bad anxiety when I don't have enough work to do because of the pressure of billable hours. But I am also learning that being in a smaller office, there are much more highs and lows when it comes to work. I was very busy for March - May. But for June, I have been DEAD. I also don't want to sound annoying by asking for work all the time!

I do the samething. When i get work i do it as fast as i can ...then check to make sure it was done correctly.

I should slow down!

this happens to me all the time. And my bosses dont understand it!! When I get work I do it right away no procrasitnating and they cant get over that Im not busy by the end of the day...

Some months are slower than others. Sometimes I have to go around the office and ask everyone for work. There are other times when I'm starting to run out of work and then I get a lot of assignments. I hate running out of work mainly b/c I have to meet a billable hour requirement. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind just sitting at my desk.

I am the same way but lately I have been on LIF or other sites in between work to spread it out. I play mind games with myself...if I finish this, then I can go on LIF for 20 min and then I'll start the next thing.

Not me! When I complete my projects, that is the time for me to be creative and play in the lab

In my line of work, this can happen. When it does, I am going nuts, because we can't sit there reading a book or paper if it is slow. We have to 'look busy'

I do the same thing - reason I'm on LIF/LIW during the day.

Yes, very much so lately. I would rather have something to do all day then too much or too little.
