how often was your 3/4 month old nursing?

Sasha still pretty much eats 8 times a day (every 2 hours), with the exception of the night when she goes down now at about 7, wakes somewhere b/t 12 30 and 2 30, then sleeps til somewhere b/t 6 and 7 30.

A girl at my new moms thing at the local hospital has trained her 10 week old to now eat every 4 hours. Goes down at 7 and sleeps through the night.

Now, I thought I had it pretty good with Sasha with the night thing, BUT I am wondering-- should she be eating less frequently at 14/15 weeks? It would of course be much easier since I always feel like I just fed her when it's time to feed her again.

Sometimes I think she is just eating cause of habit-- and when I see it's been 2 hours, I check her and I am always *prepared* to feed her-- and maybe she is not really THAT hungry.

My son is 5 months and still eats every 2-3 hours. He was sleeping through the night until we started solid food, now he is getting up once at night.

During the day, I sometimes feel that all I do is nurse him.

Allison is a total wierdo. the other day she nursed at 8am and we spent the day playing, napping, took a car ride and by the time i saw the clock it was 3pm and she had not nursed! Chat Icon

of course, at night she wakes up every hour but during the day she pulls this?! Chat Icon

btw - i don't know how often she nurses, i've tried to document her feedings but it's so sporadic every day i just gave up and go with whatever she feels like that day.

Its still about every 3 hours. I get a little confused now with Jonah being supplemented and adding the solids in, but during the day we go about 3 hours.

At night, things are really screwy because I feed them formula before bed (around 7-7:30). Then DH usually feeds Jonah before he goes to bed at 12 (formula again) and then Mady wakes up around 2-2:30 and I nurse her. She will usually go until around 7:30-8. Jonah will get up around 5ish and nurse and then again 7:30-8. Wow I am confused even as I type this, lol.

I would think Sasha should be able to go longer than 2 hrs between feedings. Do you feed on demand or just offer her the boob every 2 hrs?

That is confusing!!

Well, I *think* she needs to eat every 2 hours (on average), therefore-- I want to ensure I am ready to go should she be hungry.

I say I feed on demand, but I try not to wait til she is screaming for it. So, I check her rooting reflex and see if she is hungry. Sometimes she responds, sometimes she doesn't so it's not like she ALWAYS responds.

I will also add she nurses for 5 to 9 mins on ONE side each time. That is just how she eats-- and she is gaining weight, so the doc just said she's efficient.

Re: how often was your 3/4 month old nursing?

DS pretty much was about 8-10 times a day. I always thought that 8 times a day was pretty normal for a BFing baby.

DS is 15 weeks and eats every 2-3 hours.

In the beginning he ate hourly!

Did this lady mention how she "trained" her child as far as eating and sleeping through the night?

Re: how often was your 3/4 month old nursing?

My DD was eating every 2-3 hours at that stage.

Was this lady you met supplementing with formula at night by any chance. I remember meeting a mom once who was going on about how she was EBF and how her child slept through the night etc etc....later on in the conversation she brought up that she gave a bottle of formula last thing at night so she was not EBF and that bottle of formula is probably why her child was sleeping through the night.

I would stick with the every 2-3 hours at this stage if you can as she probably still needs itChat Icon

I do not think EBF can be "trained". I always fed on demand. It was every 2-3 hours and then a little longer at night a that age.

Re: how often was your 3/4 month old nursing?

DD is only 9wks, but she eats about every 2-3hrs....some days it's every 2 hrs on the nose, other days, she can go 3 & 1/2 to 4 hrs between feedings. I think every baby is just different. But I would say if you think she is feeding too much at this point, wait until she asks to be fed. I know that sometimes DD appears that she wants to eat and if I don't get to her in time (need to go to the bathroom, wash hands, etc) - she stops fussing and then goes another half an hour or so before she acutally decides she is ready to eat. A lot of babies will nurse for comfort so like I said, maybe try waiting until she asks to eat- also, if it is more like 3 hrs between feedings, she may then nurse on both sides. Just an idea Chat Icon

Shane is 13 weeks and still nurses every 2-3 hours. I nurse on demand, I have to say sometimes its even sooner, like every 2 hours actually. He eats like a madman some days. He used to sleep better too, longer, but now in the last week or so he's started waking up more often in the middle of the night so I don't know what's going on. I used to be able to get a good 7 hours out of him at night, now it's a 4 hour stretch when I first put him down and then every 2 hours after that. I haven't slept well in 2 weeks now. Oh, and he also only takes one boob per feeding. He's gaining like a champ too.

DS is 5 months old. I always feed on demand. He typically eat every 3-4.5 hours during the day. He also wakes up 2-3 times per night. He used to nurse every 3 hours, but started going longer stretches between feedings around 3-4 months.

Re: how often was your 3/4 month old nursing?

DD is about the same.. she eats every 2-3 hours during the day and goes a little longer at night 4-6 hours. She is EBF and I feed her on demand since there is no exact rational to the timing. She eats from both sides, but for only 4 min on each side.

This is exactly like my DS....I was getting longer stretches too (like 7 hours) and I don't know what's happening....
