Not sure but since my 11 month old wont drink from a sippy cup we're stuck on the bottle for now. I've tried a couple of different ones, he just doesn't get it yet! I've heard of at least one bottle (usually nighttime?) lasting longer than the rest...

DS is 9 months and still takes a bottle after his meals, but he laso drinks water froma sippy cup duirng meals and throughout the day it's available when he wants some. I would like to see him off the bottle by a year and a half.

Andrew is 14 months and suddenly has refused all sippy cups. I have no choice but to give him a bottle. I think it depends on each individual child.

Re: How old is too *old* for the bottle?

My son is 15 months and I'm still trying to wean. If someone could tell me how to do it, I'd love to know. I'm having a tough time. He's also teething like crazy and just got over being sick.

I said I didn't know the answer to the other question, how old is too old for binkies, and I feel the same for this question! I think it depends on the child.

18. I love Noah havnig a bottle at bedtime, he doesn't care if he drinks paint (so long as its white) out of a martini glass...but I like that bedtime bottle and the cuddle!!! So no age is too old for a bottle. He drinks out of cups all day long, but bedtime, its a bottle for us!

Re: How old is too *old* for the bottle?

Ali still drinks 2 bottles a day and drinks water out of sippy cups.

She is content that way - so I am not changing it yet

She is almost 14 months

Re: How old is too *old* for the bottle?

Gianna will not take her milk from a sippy at all, soo we still have a bottle. One in the am and one before bed. She's 15 months old.

Now that Amelia's here, she asks for it more during the day.

I plan on weaning it very soon. I just need her to get used to having Amelia around.

Another interesting topic Chat Icon My oldest never took a bottle, unless I was out for the night or away from him for an extended period. My DD was bottle fed and off the bottle at 1 year. If she hadn't essentially self weaned, I would have tried to get her off by 15 months.

Re: How old is too *old* for the bottle?

how do you go about weaning if the child refuses their milk from the cup?? DD can drink any other liquid just fine out of her cup but refuses to take more than a few sips of the milk. She needs her milk but I want to get her off the bottle soon - any advice?

The only advice is to just keep trying. Some kids are just resistant to the change.

My son was off his bottle by 15 months, but my daughter was VERY attached to her bottle, and didn't wean until 20 months...but I admit, I did not rush her either.Chat Icon She's my last, an I was sad over throwing the bottles away.Chat Icon

I'll go with my pediatrician's advice -

1 year & they're done.

Re: How old is too *old* for the bottle?

my 1st two sons were off by 1yrs old, that is what my dr advises and they never gave me a problem. I never gave them milk in a bottle. When I switch to milk I switch to a sippi cup. Hopefully it's that easy when my 3rd son turns 1.

I let my daughter drink from a bottle until 2 years. She drank from cups as well, but bottles were neater.

Same here. Both of mine weaned very easily from the bottle just before they turned 1. I would have been fine if it was 15 months or 18 months, too.

Sarah was pretty much only getting a bedtime bottle by 12 months. But then Andy came along at 16 months and as my ped had predicted she went back on bottles. We didn't push the issue and before her 2nd birthday (can't remember exactly when it happened) she was totally off them on her own.

We do sit and cuddle for her last sippy before bed.

Bella weaned herself at 14 months. I was giving her cups during the day at daycare and bottles in morning and at night since 12 months. Then one day she only wanted the cup. Too easy...
she was swaddled until 8 months because she refused to sleep otherwise, BUT she dropped a bottle without any coaxing...go figure.

Talia wont drink millk from a sippy either - so I always gave her one bottle a day. THEN out of nowhere she started asking me for bottles 3 times a day and having a FIT if I wouldn't give it to her - so I stopped them cold turkey last week. (she is 22 months).

DD will also only drink milk from a bottle. She is 1 year old this week. Water out of a sippy cup is fine, just not milk. I keep trying though. I can't say what age is too old. She's ready when she's ready.

Re: How old is too *old* for the bottle?

Both my older kids were off the bottle by 12 months or so-maybe a little older with my first. They just took to the sippy and it worked out. I never remember weaning them where they were whining for the bottle or refusing to drink unless it was a bottle. My DS is 14 months now and I give him water or juice out of sippies but I still give him milk in bottles. I dont even care about weaning to be honest, I highly doubt he will be drinking from it in another year. Just my gut feeling. So maybe by 18 months? I have stopped sweating all these time frames of when kids should stop one thing/start another. It all works out, at least that's been my experience.
