Molly is almost 3 months old and still waking twice a night to eat...between 4-6 oz. I am thinking that her little belly can't old enough to make it through the night and cereal may help.

Against everyone telling me not to - we started giving Ali cereal when she was about 2 months (only a small amount though)

Re: How old was you DC when you started them on cereal?

We just started DD on cereal about 2 weeks ago at 6 months old. Gianna has been sleeping through at 2 months old.

I am not sure if cereal will help that little MOlly sleep through the night thoughChat Icon

It could be worth a call to the PED and def a try thoughChat Icon

Ped wants to wait til she's 6 months old to try cereal. It just seems she needs something with more substance to satifsy her for more then 4 hours.

Go with your mommy gut! My PED is like yours, no solids til 6 months old.

It could be worth a try, it can't hurt her, she might just get a tad bit gassy.

We started DD on oatmeal since she has constipation issues with her formula, but if Molly has no issues, i would start with Rice, 1tbls, and at least 3-4tbls of formula/BM.

Grab the camera and watch her try to eat off that spoon!

ETA: IF it doesn't work, hey at least you know!

I started Lauren at 5 months on cereal, my son at 4 months. Both of them were sleeping through the night, 10-12 hours, by 3 months, so cereal was not a factor here.

For what it's worth, I've also read that one is not related to other in terms of cereal helping them sleep through the night. The decision should be based on the signals the baby shows that he/she is ready for whole foods.

ETA we started Ellie at 4 mos at the Ped's instructions b/c she was taking well over 30 oz of formula (close to 40)per day.

I started keeping track of when and how much she is eating to see how many oz she takes in a day. I know she is around 32-35 oz for a 24 hour period. My concern is that the fomula may not be enough.

ETA: When she's waking up, it is just because she is hungry. I have tried soothing her and she just wanted to eat. I'm not complaining because she goes right back to sleep after a bottle.

I've also heard that cereal shouldn't be used for them to sleep through the night. If anything, they eventually learn that they don't need full bellies all night long to sleep. You might want to keep trying to soothe her at night instead of feeding her. This is what I've been doign with James and so far it's been working. I don't let him starve, but I don't feed him every 3-4 hours during the night like he was getting used to!! ETA: I was tempted to try cereal too, until I got the advice to stop feeding him so much during the night. Good luck! I hope she starts sleeping more for you!!

Re: How old was you DC when you started them on cereal?

I just started DD on cereal on her 5 month birthday a week ago. I give it to her in the morning but don't think it would help her sleep longer if I gave it to her at night. She still eats about every 3-4 hours whether or not she has eaten cereal. I think she gets just as full because she drinks less formula when she eats the cereal. DD still wakes 1 time during the night for a bottle.

4 months-

I tried twice before that @ 2.5 months and 3 months... both times he woke up more frequently at night- from what I can only think was belly pains....

Re: How old was you DC when you started them on cereal?

We started at 3 months (as per our Ped.) but it took another month for him to sleep fully through the night.
So in my case the cereal really didn't make a difference with sleeping through the night.
