Re: how serious is placenta previa?
I had partial placenta previa the beginning of my first pregnancy. It ended up moving to the right spot on it's own. If it stays that way she will have to have a c-section, otherwise the placenta would come out before the baby. As long as she takes it easy she should be fine.

my SIL had it too and they said that she would need a c section but ended up delivering the baby naturally and everything was fine!

Re: how serious is placenta previa?
my friend who's 6 months has it. She's just not allowed to have sex or lift anything heavier than a gallon of water. She's doing fine so far! I don't think she mentioned needing a C-section, but maybe she didn't want to tell me.

Re: how serious is placenta previa?
my mom had it when she was pregnant with me and when she was 5 months pregnant they wanted to deliver me and my mom sayed absolutely not and they told her when it came to delivery that she could lose me or she could bleed out and they could lose her. well she wound up hemridging (cant spell lol) with me they knocked her out did an emergency c-section and both her and I can talk about it 22 yrs later lol. so I guess it is real risky but Im sure if she does what shes told and go to the doctor right away in case of anything then she will be fine plus things are alot different now then 22 yrs ago.

Re: how serious is placenta previa?
I started out with "marginal" and was put on general restrictions (no sex, no heavy lifting) at around 5 months, but at 6 months started bleeding suddenly - it was now complete placental previa -- I was on very strict bedrest for 2 months. Thankfully, it corrected itself.
I did end up having placental abruption at 37.5 weeks and had an emergency c-section, but the doc didn't think it was related.
ETA: it's serious enough to warrant no activity because you don't want to bleed or hemorrage.
