how to adjust to pumping during day and not at night?

I've been exclusively pumping for DS (almost 8 weeks old) since he never learned to latch. I used to pump every 3 hours and have stretched it to every 3.5 hours. I'm slowly losing my mind from having to get up at night to pump AND feed DS. I broke down in tears yesterday to DH because I'm frustrated with how tough it is to pump for DS at night. In addition, DS takes 45 minutes to feed and burp and is a heavy spitter with reflux. I feel like a slave to the pump.

I want to keep pumping and giving DS breast milk for at least 6 months which is when I return back to work. My best case scenario is to keep giving him breast milk until he's 1, if I can find a way to manage the pumping. I'm entertaining the idea of giving him formula at night and continuing to pump for him during the day...at least this way I can get some extra sleep at night and regain some of my sanity. I don't mind pumping during the day at all and my boss is accommodating.

Is it possible to adjust my body to only pump during the day and not at night? Or will my supply dry up? How do I go about doing this? My concern is not getting another clogged duct. I've had 3 episodes of clogged ducts which I fixed through compresses, massages, and extra pumping...I'd like to avoid getting another one while trying to adjust myself when pumping.

Thanks for listening...any advice appreciated!

Re: how to adjust to pumping during day and not at night?

Most days the last time I pump is around 7, and I don't pump again until 6am. I get my most milk that first pump and can always pump at least 3-4 bottles when I pump during the day. For now it works since he doesn't eat more than 6 oz at a time, but once he wants more, I'm probably have to go back to pumping at night if I can.

Not sure if I helped, but I know the feeling of being a "slave to the pump".

I gave up pumping over night at 8 weeks with both kids. I think it's a time when you are established to do it. I would first go from 12-5 - 1130- 5:30 -11-6 (which is where I stayed for most of my time)

I feel better knowing that it can be done! I'm going to slowly stretch my pumping sessions apart enough where I can sleep through the night. Thanks for the advice...it's very helpful!
