How to Keep Oatmeal from Clumping in Bottle?

So DS is on Elecare now which is REALLY thin. Dr. has us giving oatmeal cereal in bottle. What I've noticed happening in a few bottles is that a LOT of the oatmeal is clumped in the bottom of the bottle when he finishes the bottle. I shake the bottle really well but it's as if the formula, since it's so thin, is passing right through the oatmeal.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks!

What brand of oatmeal are you using? Maybe try switching brands? I have to put rice cereal in all of DD's bottles (but hers are mixed with BM) and in our case, I had better luck with Gerber organic than I did with Earth's Best. We switched cereal because everything got stuck to the bottom of her bottles.

We were on Gerber, but doctor has us switch off because it had soy in it (he has allergies.) So he is on the Earth's Best. I'm wondering if I just need to keep shaking during the feeding...

DS had to have Rice Cereal in his bottles due to reflux...

I found that Beechnut worked much better than Gerber. It was a lot finer consistancy. I dont know if this stands true for the oatmeal though.

If he gets gassy, be careful about the shaking - DD was so gassy the other night and it was totally because I shook her bottle up really hard. I usually use a formula mixer that I got at BRU. We also use Beechnut rice cereal - very fine. Not sure about their oatmeal cereal though.

I had that problem too. I ended up just adding a little more water to the bottle when he finished the formula. Then at 2.5 months I started to give it to him on a spoon. It was so much easier. It helped too.

It was a pain in the butt. How much cereal are you putting in a bottle? I had to play around with it to find something that worked..

He is now on Elecare which is SO thin. We were originally putting 1 teaspoon per ounce but GI said we could up it to 1.5 tsp per ounce. Since it's so thin though, it's like the formula flows right through the oatmeal. Definitely not all of it is left, but some.

Would letting the bottle sit for a bit help?

My son has been on Elecare for 4 months. I think the rice cereal works better then the oatmeal. It is finer. I only used 1 tsp per 2 ounces. It seemed to help. Does your son have reflux and a milk protein allergy?
