How would you handle activity being used as punishment?

Am I being overly sensitive?
Because as a parent, personal trainer, & have my masters in PE I'm saddened by this.

My DD told me, "I was good in class today & only had to do 1 lap on the track today."

(at their school recess is rotated thru the week between playground, blacktop/basket hoops, or track.)

I asked her what she meant & she said, "if their clothespin is dropped you have to do 2 laps.

I'm so mad, because
1) activity shouldn't be used as punishment. IMO that's like withholding snack or lunch.
2) how about promoting activity as fun. (which is what I do all the time with my DDs)
3) the other issue I have is just a few weeks ago my DD got into trouble because her & others were spitting & stepping into a puddle at the track, even after being told not to. I know she should have followed directions, but what Kindergartener wouldn't be bored walking laps?

I feel like there is a lack of promoting fitness for these kids, & I need to say something.

Agree with you. It's like in the military not for a 5 yo. I would call the school and clarify what your dd meant though. Sometimes kids don't communication exactly what happened.

Ooooh, I like phrasing it as "clarifying what my DD said."
I love her teacher & don't want to come across as "I know more & trying to tell how to do their job"

I agree.

I think it's healthy to promote activity from a young age to make it habit.

I wish I had more of this when I was young.

I also think MANY kids thrive from having that outlet.

DS is definitely one of them.

Not having activity can create even more behavioral issues in young kids IMO.

Teachers have it tough & these K teachers have only the "specials" for a break & they're usually doing planning during it. They eat lunch with them, so I'm sure recess is "break-time". I have a bunch of activities they can do using a track. It may require some teaching of the rules, but after that, they've created a fun use of the track.
