Hmm - well, my little local grocery store is pretty good. It is not a chain place - just Fort Salonga Market. Whenever I had an issue they were nice about it and let me exchange no problem when DH bought the wrong stuff on three different occasions lol.
That's the only experience I really had with CS. The kids that ring you up are usually pretty good - they always go to bag, even though I bag myself and give them a break from having to do it.
ETA: I would rate them at a 4 or 5!
I shop at the same place, and I love it there. Their produce is always fresh. The owner is always around and says hello. The kids that ring you up always say hi how are you.. the only problem I ever have there is their expiration dates. Not to many people shop there, so the stuff on the shelves doesn't turn over quickly and I don't think they check the dates all that often. The store is always very clean though. DH and I do our big shopping at stop in shop in northport since it has a larger selection and usually better prices, but the store is huge so we usually get there once a month. both stores I would give 4 out of 5.
eta: Fort salonga market is a chain its an IGA store, but they are each privatly owned thats why some are great and others are gross.
same here. although it is totally convenient, i find that their prices are somewhat high and that they don't have a vast selection. despite these negatives, everyone is really friendly and helpful. oh and ITA about the expiration dates. more than once, i came across moldy cheese. i brought the package to the manager once and politely said that he should discard it before someone else sees it. he was so thankful and apologetic.
i would rate it a 4.5 for customer service

negative 1 i was at waldbaums the other day to get a store credit on 3 items one which was a big container of rosemary that was already opened when i got it home. i didn't have the receipts and the lady gave me a hard time all i wanted was a credit & to do my food shopping
tonight i was there and i commented to dh how their produce is disgusting and there was no meat or chicken on the shelf. it looked like a hurricane was coming to town.
Which Waldbaums so we can avoid it?

Re: How would you rate the customer service at your local Food Store?
I go to Waldbaums. I have to say that EVERYTIME I go there and go to check out it NEVER fails that my cashier (usually a teenager) is scanning my items with one hand and checking their cell phone with the other.
This aggravates me to no end. You're working - not on a break. STOP CHECKING YOUR TEXT MESSAGES!!!
I was there tonight and saw signs at the registers telling the cashiers that as of Jan 1, 2009 - no cell phones are to be used while at work. All calls are to come through the store on an emergency basis only. Guess I wasn't the only one that noticed this.

Stop and Shop in Dix Hills I'd say a 4. I've never really had to use it, but the employees are nice and the cashiers pretty competent.
Now the Starbucks CS in there I'd give a -1. I once stood around for about 10 mins (I went back and forth while shopping after the first 5 mins standing there) and there was NOBODY there. I'm assuming only 1 person was working and they were on break but there was no sign saying so or anything. In general they're ok, service and ability to make drinks.
