How'd you break the binky/nuk/pacifier? NEED HELP!

We gotta do it and I am dreading it. He doesn't have it all day, mostly when he is going to sleep. What did you guys do to get your child off the binky?

Actually, tried it tonight, cutting most of the thing off so he can't really suck. He was freaking. I didn't want to do it tonight b/c we have a busy day tomorrow. I decided we needed to wait and try another time. We are going to be out ALL DAY tomorrow at parties. Tonight is a bad night to start.

Hi Carolyn - When we took away Jakes binky - Paul put him to bed, Jake looked for his binky and daddy said -you don't need it anymore - you are a big boy. Jake said ok - laid down and went to sleep. He asked for it once or twice after but that was it. I think Jake was about 18 months old. I want to do it with Ella soon.

Try it during the week and see how he does. I was surprised it was that easy with Jake.

Have fun this weekend at all your partiesChat Icon

Bella only used it for sleep at night for the longest time (over a year and a half or more I would say--she is almost 3).

A few weeks ago after MUCH procrastination and many excuses of who cares as long as she isn't in public or we can't because we are going to grandpas...we hatched the Binky Fairy plan. We built it up and told her the Binky Fairy was coming to take it away. She left it on a plate one evening and when she woke up she had a note from the fairy thanking her, a cupcake, and the opportunity to get a toy of her choice from toysrus (she picked a 3.99 broom) Hasn't asked for it since....

Maria--I will let you know how it goes, make sure to remind me!

Diana--Man, that was easy. Matteo was HYSTERICAL for over a half hour upstairs in his crib. When Dave gave it to him he threw it and got upset but then we told him it broke and he just would try to suck it and say 'it broke'. So figured why not try to put him to bed with it. No go! We may be sleeping away tomorrow night too so tonight was not the ideal night to try it.

Man, Jake did well with it! Matteo is older though, maybe that's why he's having a harder time.

We got really lucky with both DC. DS gave DW his paci during a party when he was about 18 months. We decided that was the sign that he was done. We got rid of every pacifier in the house, and he never asked for them.

With DD, we just made a decision to stop around 18 months, and she also never really complained. A little bit the first night, but that was about it.

"Out of sight, out of mind" seemed to work well for us.... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
