I don't know what specific neighborhood the school was in, but North Richmond is known to be a dangerous area... I wonder if the kids who saw and didn't report were scared there would be retaliation? Maybe gang members were involved?
I don't know, I'm just reaching for something, because it's so horrible for there to have been so many witnesses who just stood by doing nothing.

But if she left the dance to meet her father, where was he for two hours? I know it said he was looking for her but I don't get how he didn't find her in the courtyard.

if this is true then it's certainly horrific but let's not forget that just recently some hofstra students were falsely accused and the victim recanted her story so until the investigation bears more evidence i'll reserve judgment.
It says in the article the assault was still going on when police arrived.

So disturbing on so many levels.
- the young girl raped by multiple people
- people watching
- people going back inside to tell others that someone was being raped like if they said "fight" and everybody was rushing to see
- nobody called the cops
- the father looking for his daughter, not finding her and founding out she was being raped as he was waiting for her. As a parent, I can't imagine what he must be feeling right now.

I am completely sick reading this. This country is going to hell in a handbasket. I do realize every generation/decade had horrific things that have happened. Lately i feel that is all i read/hear about.

I agree-I don't think it will turn out to be the same thing at all. She's not even the one who called police-so it doesn't sound like a girl crying wolf.
It's sad that there is a new level of skepticism-it's exactly what we all said would happen as a result of that other "victim" lying and that's why I think she should be held accountable.

We are all becoming so desensitized to violence, but it has a MUCH more dramatic affect on children/teenagers. The horrific things they see on tv and in the movies make something like this seem typical (or even tame compared with some of the things they are exposed to on a daily basis).
Something that would shock any one of us is something that they have seen over and over on video games and movies and on the internet since they were 5 or 6. It probably was not as horrifying to some of those who witnessed it as it is to some of us who are just reading about it.

btw JMHO.. i doubt video games desensitized the others to watch and not report. Parenting teaches right from wrong, not video games, but that's just my opinion.

May I raise children who ALWAYS do SOMETHING.
I would be so ashamed if my children just stood by during something like this.
Talk about a wake up call for these parents! Not only are the boys/men who raped this girl guilty but so is every single person who watched and did not call 911 or try to help her. Shame on ALL of them. How could you live with yourself?
Couldn't have said it better myself. Apathy is the same as action in a case like that
