HSG-related question - need reassurance

Hi girls,

I am brand new to TTC (as in, haven't even started yet) but had an HSG today to try and determine the shape of my uterus. My regular gyn was concerned it might be bicornuate and sent me to a fertility specialist because they have more specialized testing equipment. Long story short, they still can't tell Chat Icon BUT they did notice that while the dye moved through my right tube perfectly, it was "sluggish" moving through my left. The RE seems to think I might have some scar tissue in the left tube from a surgery I had awhile ago to remove an ovarian cyst on that side (I still have the ovary). The dye did go through, just not as much and very slowly. I'm really worried that this might affect my chances of getting PG naturally. Since I'm so new to this, I'm not sure if I am overreacting. For those of you who have experience in this, do you think my chances are bad? I'm trying to decide what to do.

TIA for your help - I'm sorry this was so long.

Re: HSG-related question - need reassurance

Hi, I had a similar experience. I'll share it with you but it may have nothing to do with what you are dealing with. But, you never know. My HSG looked like I had scar tissue in uterus and my right tube looked blocked also. That is why I ended up at the RE also. However, right after the test I got pregnant naturally. From the right ovary. It ended in M/C but I was really confused. I then had laparoscopic/hysterocopic surgery to take a look inside and cut out any scar tissue etc.... Well, it turned out that my right tube was not blocked (maybe it was and the dye opened it up or it was just a bad test result) and my uterus it turns out is T-shaped. You can also see the shape of your uterus if your RE had a 3D ultra sound machine. After surgery, I switched RE's and my new RE had the 3D and without surgery could have told me the shape of my uterus. I guess my point is that the HSG is not fool proof and can show results that aren't right. Hopefully, your RE can guide you in the right direction. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck.

Re: HSG-related question - need reassurance

Given your concerns and history, I would stick with the RE and see if any fertility treatments are recommended for you. Tubal issues present concerns for ectopic pregnancies and/or difficulties with fertilization and transport of the egg. In a worst case scenario, IVF is used to bypass tubal issues but that would be far down the road in your case. Best of luck!
