Re: Hubby is alittle upset and worried
I agree with you we are very thankful that we have my salary and he has my benefits but it does suck that is comes down to polictical. I know he is great teacher and the student really enjoy him. I know he get frustrated and wants to have his own class. I keep telling him to hang in there. I don't want to move off the island but we will see what a year or two brings. I'm also not getting any younger and we do want to start are family soon. Hugs to you

He hasn't really thought about NYC but that might be his next step.

he should seriously consider it. it will get him the classroom experience he needs. eta: and the pay in the city is not as bad as it was 5 years ago. DH has had two interviews on LI, and both places he would have to take a small paycut.

definitely should try this! some of the districts on LI want experience, and the only way you can get experience is by teaching. i truly enjoyed my year in the city and would have stayed, but i couldnt' turn down the position i was offered on LI--it was my dream job, a great commute and the exact grade level and type of special ed. students i wanted to work with....
that said though, i think my experience in the city was a definite plus... i was still new, but not totally new.... I tink the LI districts want people with some experience that can survive on their own.

TeachNY.com or http://schools.nyc.gov/TeachNYC/default.htm
I've been in the city for 4 years and really love it. Now we have a child and the commute is just to long so I am looking on LI. Personally If I could pick my school up and move it to LI I would!
