Huge 1st birthday Parties

One of the women at my job's daughter is turning 1 next weekend so she's having a huge blowout party. She's renting a big tent, everyone's invited, she took a day off of work to prepare and she said something like 120 people are coming. I understand the 1 is a big birthday, but not that big. I'm I wrong to think she might have other motives for having such a large party for a 1 year old. She won't even remember it.

Re: Huge 1st birthday Parties

Many of the friends that I have made through Jacob are doing the same type of 1st Birthday that you desscribed including myself.

Personally, I was hoping it wouldn't be a big to do, however once we got our invite list together it turned out to be over 100 people and we could not cut people out.

We were going to do the tent, BBQ, house party in the backyard until we figured out it would cost us more to do it that way than to have it at the restaurant we decided on ( go figure).

In the future it will just be at a gym place or something like that with just kids....

I thought this is how things went...

I love big parties! If possible $$-wise I would throw a big bash too.

I think 1st b-day are usually bigger than the others.

we are throwing a big party at our house with 100+ people. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. It's an excuse for us to see our loved ones...share our happiness, and HAVE FUN!!

I agree...I just don't know how I am going to do it since DD's b-day is in December. I will have to think of something fun.

I also agree, I'm having a big party for Julia's 1st b-day pony rides, petting zoo, coming to the house. I wanted to go all out for her 1st b-day!

Re: Huge 1st birthday Parties

Wow, I had no idea people went all out for the 1 st birthday. For my first son we just had close family and a few friends with babies over for dinner and gifts. But I guess if we had more money we might have done more. My youngest son turns 1 in October, guess I better start saving now. Sorry if I offened anybody, I really had no idea it was such a big deal.

Same here! We probably won't have 100 people but it will be as big of a bash as I can make it.

I haven't done anything big for my girl's b-days. I personally think it is a bit too much for a little kid. If anything we'll take them somewhere fun for them, like the zoo or aquarium. I think such a huge b-day party for a 1 year old is more for the parents, not for the kid. (Not meant to offend)

In our family we joke around that the first birthday is for the child but it is really for the parents to celebrate that they made it through the first year of parenthood!

We had a big party but it was a duel party for my son and my niece who are 3 weeks apart. I have been to many big first birthday parties.

That's exactly what I say. For my older son's 1st, I rented a hall for about 60 people. For my little one's first (which was a few weeks ago), I had a luau theme and did up the whole yard with about 50 people. It was great.

The following bdays are all about the kids and I have them at kids party places. But the first bday is a pat on the back for me and dh on a job well done for the first year!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree! Jake's 1st b-day party isn't going to be THAT big, but I love big 1st b-days. Chat Icon

Re: Huge 1st birthday Parties

I'm just finalizing the invite list for his b-day and we're at 70 adults and 20 kids. We're doing it here at the house w/ a tent and some fun things. I think at this point it's more for us - we're so happy to have him we want to celebrate!Chat Icon

I am guilty of the big first birthday party too, BUT we had a smaller Christening and since it took 3 years and 6 miscarriages to get her here and she will be our last child I figured, why notChat Icon

We are having it at a restauruant and having a Princess theme

LOL!!! That's great!
We're also planning on having a larger size B-Day party for Alexandra's 1st B-Day. I think it will be a really great way to get all the babies & kids together in the family, as well as all of our friends children. With everyone's hectic schedules, it's so hard to get everyone together these days, we're looking at it as a giant play-date!!Chat Icon

Re: Huge 1st birthday Parties

We did the big huge party for the christening so went very simple for his first birthday. Actually I took the money we would have spent on a big first birthday ( I just did the amount we spent on the christening) and put it in his bank account. I think thank us when he is older Chat Icon
