Whoaaaa... big move to IVF! Obviously you know your situation best- but I think IVF is a big jump if you have never done a medicated IUI! IVF is a big deal and a negative or a loss from it (not trying to be negative, just realistic based on my own experiences) is WAY worse than from an IUI since there was so much more at steak... You invest A LOT more financially, physically, and emotionally into IVF- and if it does't work, you don't get to transfer again as quickly as you would with a failed IUI. I'm just saying...
Anyway if I remember correctly, my DH had to get another s/a which was an insurance requirement I think- and some pre IVF bloodwork for both of us.
Good luck!!

It was Dr Bs idea... otherwise i never would have thought of it yet. I'm leaning towards medicated IUI, mainly because i can do it right away... lol
thanks.

Oh wow I'm surprised he would jump to that so fast- eh I take that back.. I'm not so surprised
To be honest, I think I was pushed into it prematurely.

lol. On one hand i am unnerved by doing that so quickly... but on the other... i have 10k lifetime for this and i get annoyed that i could possibly waste some of that on iui kwim.

what is his reasoning for going straight to ivf? just because of insurance?

No, thats my reasoning... he didnt mention his... he mentioned it when he called me and told me my beta was negative... he said its an option if i wanted to... that we would discuss it further at CD3

Re: Humor me... Dr B IVFers...
i agree with pennycat, it's a hugggge jump. plus you dont seem to have a problem getting pregnant... but definitely hear him out as to his reasoning. Ask him if he would consider doing a medicated IUI cycle as well.
I would assume his reasoning is because with IVF he has complete control over the cycle, from controlling hormones, immune issues, to selecting the quality embryos and deciding how many to put back.
And unfortunatly money/insurance coverage will play into that decision. But if you truly believe it's too early and you want to try a few more IUIs or TI, then don't feel pressured to move forward so quickly!

Re: Humor me... Dr B IVFers...
Your reasons to move foward with IVF, make sense. But like Penny said, TI with Meds doesn't really take up too much of the 10k. I would only lean towards this at least oen more cycle being that you didn't have an issue getting pregnant before.
But, if you decide on moving on to IVF, I think in your case you would have a great shot. You have been able to get pregnant, which is very favorable.

Re: Humor me... Dr B IVFers...
I was told by my RE to not do IUIs (had 2 with my OB) because it doesn't give much more of a chance than .
It is a bug jump but if he thinks your chances with an IUI is much better than without I would seriously consider the IVF.

Re: Humor me... Dr B IVFers...
i would prob opt for medicated cycle first (prob not even IUI since you don't really have a problem getting pregnant and it will save you some inurance $ to skip the IUI and just do timed BD).
that being said, it really depends what dr. Bs reasoning for IVF is. my guess is that since you've had losses he would say that seeing your embryos would give them more answers (ie. if they are high quality or if they arrest near 3 days, etc). for me, yes i could have gotten pregnant without it and he absolutely would have tweaked my protocol over and over if that's what I wanted. but after a year of cycles when he said IVF was safer for me and that he thought I'd end up there anyway, that's all I needed to hear. even though i got pregnant twice with medicated cycles and timed BD and never once did an IUI. just food for thought!

Re: Humor me... Dr B IVFers...
I skipped medicated iuis and went straight to ivf. I had gotten pregnant three times on my own before and nada from iuis. It's all a matter of how comfortable you are. Like everything else, you need to be ready.
