Hypothetically: This in-law has already seen you at work, but didn't even recognize you. Your boss knows that you can see everyone's info. Should you tell your boss, just as an FYI, that you're related through marriage to Bob in accounting?

i don't see the need to. In theory, one should be able to conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism at work, so why would it matter if you had access to a certain person's info? especially if you're professional enough to NOT use it in any inappropriate manner?
just playing devil's advocate. I don't see the need to point this out- because then, imo, you look like the one interpreting a 'difference' between the employee/family memeber relationship.

In this hypothetical situation, there could be a policy violation. But, since you've worked at the company longer, it would be more of a problem for the other person...who really needs the job.
