Hysteroscopy Question
I have a hysteroscopy scheduled for Friday to remove uterine polyps. I just found out that they are giving me general anesthesia and I am really upset.
I have a call into my doctor to see if it can be done under local and I am waiting for him to call me back.
To anyone who has had this done before, were you given local or general anesthesia?
UPDATE: I spoke with my doctor and I feel a lot better. He said that they can't do local because it will be too uncomfortable and there is too much of a risk if the patient tries to move. He also said that the general anesthesia will really just put me to sleep and is similar to the anesthesia they use if you were having certain dental surgeries.

Re: Hysteroscopy Question
I had general when I had my hysteroscopy. I don't know that they'll do it with a local as they have to do a D&C at the same time.

Re: Hysteroscopy Question
i had general with my hysteroscopy and d&c. Since they are removing uterine polyps they can't do local for your uterus. Another option to general may be spinal (kinda like an epidural. I think conscious sedation (where you're ina twilight) may not be enough

Re: Hysteroscopy Question
I just had a hysteroscopy done last Thursday to remove three uterine polyps. It was so easy. It's over before you know it and then you can still enjoy the rest of your day. I also had general general anesthesia.

Re: Hysteroscopy Question
'general anesthesia' sounds scary but they don't intubate you (no breathing tubes) so it's not as bad as you may think
just some IV medicines to put you to sleep, next thing u know, u're awake and done with your procedure
the only symptom i had was dry mouth sore throat
plus u'll go for pre-op testing, u'll meet the anesthesiologist before your procedure, so don't get nervous
