i am driving myself nuts over this- need advice
My son will be 4 on February 11. I am scheduled to have baby boy #2 on February 6. My son is really looking forward to having a Birthday Party but do I have one at a place or something at the house with like 10 kids? The house would def. be easier and cheaper- would you get some sort of entertainment for the house?
I don't want to not do anything and have him think that its because of his baby brother. if we have it at a place, we would have it at the end of February.
Ugh, what would you do?

i would do it early instead of late if you think the house will be easier then do it at the house (personally i would prefer a place being that pregnant and not wanting to deal with clean up, set up etc) my friend used clowns.com for her daughters party (but i believe she was younger). they were great
eta - is he in daycare? if so, maybe just go into daycare with cupcakes, goodie bags etc and have the party there

In the same situation. Ds will be five feb. 26 and baby is due Feb 12. Wanted to do it earlier but did not happen. Five birthday parties take up every weekend for January. My only option is March. It sucks because winter parties are super expensive and my home is much to small to host a party. Look into a party this month, if not I see nothing wrong with trying for March.

If you can swing the cost, do youself a HUGE favor and have it 'out' - 2 -3 hours, the kids have a blast, and the ONLY thing you have to do is hand over your AMEX.
It's 150% worth it

I agree, i think with a brand new baby at home the last thing you will want to do is clean/set up/clean up a party.

Re: i am driving myself nuts over this- need advice
My kids are 25 months apart, I had DS 2nd birthday almost a month early at a party place. It was perfect. We had the family over to celebrate on his actual birthday as a low key but still nice party too.

Re: i am driving myself nuts over this- need advice
I just had to make same decision. DD's 3rd bday is Tues and I'm currently overdue by 3 days with new baby. I decided to have it out and do it a few weeks after the fact so baby will at least be 3 weeks and I will leave him/her with a family member for the 2 hours. I really didn't want kids in my house in the dead of winter (sick season) with a newborn. I feel bad about pushing it off a little but she will have nursery school party and we will do cake with immediate family near real date.

I would do this personally. I'd go to a bounce place or chucke cheese (sp? idk, i've never been) somewhere super fun for kids where you don't have to lift a finger. congrats!

make it as easy and guilt-free as possible! And if you can swing it financially, splurge on what will make life the easiest, whether it be entertainers, servers, whatever.

Re: i am driving myself nuts over this- need advice
I would do it a month before his bday at a place. There are too many variables with having it after the baby is born that might make it more stressful - you don't know what kind of delivery/situation you will have, how you will be feeling, how the baby will be doing etc. Having the party before the baby comes is a lot simpler and gets it out of the way without worrying about the above.
If you can't do it early - I would ABSOLUETLY have it out. If money is an issue there are places that are pretty cheap out there relatively speaking. The one thing I would never do is have a bunch of germy four year olds running around my house during flu season with a newborn in the house. Even if it's a small group. Once they leave they will still leave behind tons of germs on everything they touched. Even if you keep the baby isolated, the rest of your family will be much more at risk. Personally, I would avoid this at all costs.
