I am hating my dog these days....

She chewed up a 5 dollar bill (HOW she got ahold of that is beyond me) and then barfed all over the rug. Then when I went to clean it, I realized she also PEED (recently- it was still warm) even though I took her out earlier. She's eating/drinking fine and doesn't appear ill.

I swear she's acting out because she senses the new baby coming.

Being big and huge and caring for a toddler and now dealing with the dog is making me really regret ever getting her.

I hate that I feel that way, but I do.....

I am losing patience with my dogs too so I understand.

Between the one bitting himself to projects requiring a $200 vet visit last week and the other one pooping in his crate, eating the other dog's poop outside and trying to make projects also... I can't take it.

I feel like opening the door sometimes and let them go.

Then I remember my commitment to them when I bought them and I got to suck it up.

I'm right there with you. My dog is being so defiant. Going to the bathroom in the house after being walked for at least 20 mins, chewing things, jumping on my furniture yet its her growling at the new baby thats got me really concerned.

I have to say, I have felt that way about my cats from time to time, so I feel for ya!!!

I have learned to deal better with them by letting them spend more time outside, they always wanted to, but I was a bit too precious about it. They rarely leave my backyard, but its nice to have rid of them for a while.

Hang in there, I am sure things will turn around!!! Can she spend more time outside (obviously when the weather is appropriate...not in a cruelty sense) that might help have some time away from her. I know dogs aren't like cats, but the dog might enjoy it.

Hang in there. I have often turned to LIF and my dachshund website for encouragement. Someone on the dachshund site told me a long time ago that we sometimes love our more troubled "kids" the most. For all my dog's faults, I do feel that way. I do not fully understand him but I understand him more than anyone else does. I have a very difficult dog and, franklly (no pun intended even though he is a frankfurter) I am afraid of him at times. It is so tough to safely introduce some dogs to a baby. I often get upset that my son will probably never be allowed to sleep with this dog in his bed. However, when I see progress I feel like I would never have wanted to miss out on seeing a boy and his dog become friends. They look for each other in the house now. My son knows the dog's name. My son loves to give the dog food. We have a dachshund statue that looks just like the dog, and my son pets it. Teaching my son and the dog to be gentle is so much fun. I did not get the dog that I thought I was getting. However, I learned more from him than I thought I would, and he entertains me more than any dog ever could. I do not think that there is a better home for him and I love him, so I will do all I can to make it work. Be patient and find the right balance between solicalizing the dog and keeping everyone safe.

I think as pet owners we have all been there. I know I have....sometimes I feel like taking care of my dog and kitty is such a hassle KWIM. But I think it's only natural and then I remind myself that they are pets and they depend on me as much as DD does...and then they will do something cute that melts my heart

But it's hard...it's like having an extra kid

I hope it gets better. My dog has been acting out too lately. I think she needs exercise and I just don't have the time. Also, she is IMPOSSIBLE to walk on a leash so that makes it hard. She is going to training at petsmart and we missed the last 2 classes cause DH had to work late. We will make those up. Once she gets better on a leash, I told her, I promised her that I would walk her.

I know my poor dog is very neglected since DD came - her health has gone downhill - she was diagnosed with hip displasia in June and we've done nothing about it until last weekend ...

She didn't get groomed all summer and I finally had to breakdown and bring her a few weeks ago b/c she was shedding all over - still is - but its much better now. I prescheduled her next apt so I'm forced to bring her.

I feel so bad for her sometimes - she still gets her walks, just not on her usual schedule, but she used to get more playtime with us - now when we are finished playing with DD we are too tired to play with the dog!

I love her so much - she is really a very good dog that we brought up from the shelter. So far she tolerates DD - I just hope DD will learn to be gentle with her.

I feel the same guilt about giving my dog attention. I'd love to walk her when I go out take DS for a stroll, but she pulls hard and is very fearful of strangers and so I can't handle her and the stroller.

It probably wouldn't work for a dog who isn't good around other dogs, but we took Pumpkin to the dog run this weekend so she could burn off some energy and she absolutely loved it. It made me feel a bit better about giving her attention.

I have 3 dogs and one is just a little over a year old and VERY attached to me. When I was at the end of my pregnancy she started to pee on our bed, almost daily, it was beyond aggravating.
She was obviously getting jealous...so I made sure to spend some extra time with her, etc...and it seemed to do the trick. Now the baby is home, she is not jealous of her, she actually loves the baby...and I make sure that everyday I spend some quality time with the dog, whether it be taking her for a walk of playing ball outside with her.
