I am one helluva burned Yankee fan right now - UPDATE!!!!!!!!

*******OMG!!!! DH took a chance, canceled the weekday plan they offered, entered us into a pool for a Saturday ticket plan in case one opened up- and it DID!!!! We are back to our Saturday bleacher plan!! We're not with our bleacher buddies....but at least we can tailgate with 'em! I'm SOOOO happy! Chat IconChat Icon I won't get to go to too many games this year since I'm due in late June...but I'll go to as many as I can take before then!!! I have to miss the first one due to my friend's shower...but other than that I'm gonna do my best to go to every one! We'll see how a very preggo lady holds up!

Thanks all for listening to my story and offering support! Chat Icon

*******************

My husband and I have had Saturday season tickets in the bleachers for five years. We've grown close to the fans around us, and we've become a family. Going to the games is MORE than baseball to us now. I look forward to that game because of the people, and the game could just completely blow and it doesn't matter.

Well, we get freaking suuuucky news today. I guess we never thought it would happen. When it came time to 'transfer' our account to the new stadium, we had to pick our plan, and our 2nd, 3rd, etc choices.

Well....what do we end up with?

A fairly newly married couple with a baby on the way are now given WEEKDAY TICKETS!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

What the hell does any kind of seniority get you? Our friends in the bleachers have been there since 2000, some even earlier and have been relegated to really awful seats that don't even compare to what they had. At least they get their Saturday plan. They even asked on our application if there were other ticket holders we wanted to sit next to, and of course we arranged for that.

They've taken away from us what I hoped would be a FAMILY tradition for years to come. I am so hurt and upset, I cannot even begin to describe how deep it goes. My husband is taking it okay- he's like, hey that's baseball, we knew there was a possibility, and what can we do? What's done is done.

But come on....thanks to the greedy azz Yankee organization, alienating the REAL average fan. All that b.s. telling us the stadium was for US. Please. And about a week ago, they announced that 300 of the BLEACHER seats are obstructed view. Nice way to treat the FANS.Chat Icon

I knew, being pregnant, I wouldn't get to see as many games this year. Now, it's even LESS. We're just going to sell them. And if we want to join our SATURDAY friends, we can't even think for a minute we'd get tickets. The whole damn season will be sold out, people will sell their tickets for ungodly amounts.

Which is what we'll have to do with ours.

Well, go ahead and alienate your real fans. Then when the fair weather fans leave you in the dust and you can't sell your seats...you reap what you sow.

I was so furious I told DH we had to complain. But he thinks there's nothing that can be done. I just don't understand WHY this had to happen. I understand it's a new stadium, they created new plans and some got phased out...but it screws so many of us in the process. I was so close to calling the Mike Francesa show today...but all they want to talk about is friggin STEROIDS.

Sorry about this long tirade. I just can't get over this.Chat Icon

I'm sorry Tara, I know how much those games mean to you and DH. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm frustrated too, I haven't been to a game for a few seasons and now with the new stadium I can't even LOOK at what ticket prices are. It's insane, but I'll have to be content with being a fan from the comfort of my living room couch for the rest of my life. Chat Icon

Thanks for listening to my rant and lending some support.Chat Icon

Well, DH made a crazy decision today. He decided to cancel what we have, and go into the 'pool' for the partial plan, which is what we used to have. There are no guarantees we'll get it, but DH is hoping many season ticket holders are in our predicament, plan on canceling, and then other plans will open up. HUGE risk. We could stand to lose our seniority. But I just Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon a miracle will happen!

Re: I am one helluva burned Yankee fan right now

It's bad all around

Both the Mets and the Yankees are making it impossible for the real fans to enjoy the games

It's all about the corporations now. The weekends are when the Yankees and Mets hope that Joe the CEO and Bob the client are going to spend an ungodly amount on seats.

And despite the shape of the economy, I'm sure many of the bigger firms will still do this.

But the hardcore fan has been thrown under the bus.

I used to go to 7-10 Met games a year. Of course with the kids, it's more difficult anyway, but with the ticket prices, I'm lucky if I get to one.

And they raised the minimum commitment from 7 games to 15 games.

Why? They claim demand.

I say greed.

And the BEST part is - being a partial ticket holder for the Mets doesn't guarantee you playoff tix. You have to enter a lottery with other plan participants.

Not that we've made the playoffs in recent years, but you get my point Chat Icon

I don't think you'd get anywhere with him - he's another Yankee shill - claims to be objective, but since his show airs on YES, his focus is hardly objective.

Oh I know, it was just a crazy idea in the heat of the moment. Chat Icon I just wanted to vent publicly about it.

I 100% agree with your post above!Chat Icon It is completely sad. I hope this economy wakes them up somehow, but I doubt it.

I think we should all pay more attention and possibly get season plans for the minor league teams, like the Cyclones and the SI Yankees.

Tickets are cheaper - and it's more about baseball and less about being corporate.

I'll tell ya, we went to a LI Ducks game and had a really great time!! The ticket prices are low, there's not a bad seat in the house, it's family oriented, and the game is actually about the game!!!!

Yep - when the girls get older, we may look into a partial plan for the Brooklyn Cyclones. We're taking them this summer for the Cyclones' annual "Baby's first game" - they let the kids on the field Chat Icon

We also got burned. We have had our season tickets for 4 years. We had a 15 game Sunday package and we found out Wednesday night that the only thing they have for us is the 12 game weekday package.

It's NOT FAIR!

(i don't normally post on this board but I wanted to see what people were saying about the tickets!)

We have the 15 game plan friday night package.

My father has been speaking with his friends and they really got bumped upstairs.
We are on the "main" level which is not like the old main level.

Our old seats at yankee stadium were sec 23 row C box 299, which was the main section

Now we are upstairs section 208 and the last last row, we are covered but its very suffocating being so far back.
I am not going to be used to it at all.

My dad tried calling today but he said it was so jammed up, probably a lot of unhappy people calling today.

They are really treating their fans like crap and its not rightChat Icon

ugggh you too!!! I'm so sorry!!! Are you keeping your current plan or doing the crazy thing by giving it up and crossing your fingers you get lucky in the 'pool'?

I will KILL my DH for taking that risk if we end up with nothing.Chat Icon

Mrs M (Nicole) - I can only imagine the amount of calls they're getting right now. They deserve to be raked over the coals for this!Chat Icon DH wouldn't have even known the invoice was supposed to be paid if he hadn't been checking his online account. We only just got the letter in the mail today.

Re: I am one helluva burned Yankee fan right now

we have a full season and have the same tickets. (relative to the new stadium seating)

I'm also hearing that the season is not sold out. You can still get tickets if you want to go.

I agree though, raising the prices and treating folks with packages like this is awful.

This has taken all of the fun out of going to the game. You have to take on a second and third job to afford it.

We split the season 3 ways with someone and then my friend and I split the 1/3. That is the only way we can afford it.

Re: I am one helluva burned Yankee fan right now

Here is an article from the saturday daily news

We're getting Yanked over tickets at new Stadium, cry Bombers fans
BY Corky Siemaszko
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Saturday, February 21st 2009, 12:01 AM

Th Yankees are getting a new stadium, but some of their most loyal fans are getting the shaft.

Hundreds of full- and partial-season ticket holders got word Friday they aren't getting the seats - or packages - they requested in the Bombers' new digs.

And that's breaking their pinstriped hearts.

"It's so sad what they're doing to the fans," said Marie Wallace, a partial-season ticket holder since 1996 who would fly up from Florida to see her favorite team play.

"I wanted to have seats comparable to what I had before, near the first base line. They told me I was high on the list. Then they put me in these horrible seats by the foul pole line and told me I should be grateful."

A Brooklyn fan, who asked to remain anonymous because he's still trying to snag season tickets, said he, too, didn't get the seats he asked for.

"These are the real Yankee fans," he said. "They'll bend over backward for the big corporations, but not for regular guys like me."

Another disappointed fan - a partial-season ticket holder - said he was prepared to shell out more dough for worse seats because he loves the Yankees and he knows a new stadium means higher prices.

"I specifically requested a weekend package because that's what I had before and that's when I can see the games," he said. "They offered me a weekday package and basically said take it or leave it."

There were similar laments on Yankees fans' Web sites.

"I have been a Yankee fan since I could say Mickey Mantle," wrote a fan named Johozak, who had seats above the Yankees dugout in the old stadium but was priced out of the new park. "Looks like I will be watching games at home."

Another fan using the handle Three generations of yankee fans said he couldn't have been clearer about what seats he wanted - and when he wanted them.

"My Saturday plan is now a weekday 12-game plan," he wrote. "I had behind home plate and now I am past third base."

A spokesman for the Yankees said he was not prepared to comment on the furor.

you totally should. They've completely screwed anyone who had a weekend plan. I'm sorry this is happening to you. Let me know if you end up needing tickets. We got our full seasons in the bleachers and probably won't be making too many weekend games with a 2 1/2 year old.Chat Icon
