I am overwhelmed with emotion! My daughter will be 1 tomorrow..
My dear baby girl,
One year ago today, you entered in my world making me a better person than I could have ever imagined that I could ever be. One year ago today, I looked in your eyes for the first time and told you that you were my miracle and I would spend the rest of my life taking care of you. One year ago today, my life began.
This past year has been filled with milestones, happiness, fulfillment, and goodness. all because of YOU! I have woken up each and every day, smiling like I never have before. I have spent so many hours of my day just staring at you in amazement. So many times I have felt as if my heart was literally going to explode with love for you. You have completed me in a way that I didn’t even know I was yearning for.
You have brought happiness to an entire family with simply being on this earth and in our lives. I can’t believe that in one year, you have gone from a helpless infant to a mobile, chattering little girl. I look in your eyes and I see my future. I now know what I was put on this earth to do. I now know the most important and meaningful job in the world is raising you.
I never would have thought that love could be SO unconditional, selfless, and so pure. I hold your hand as you try to take your first steps on your own and so many feelings overwhelm me. I am so proud that you are becoming an independent little human being but at the same time, I am so sad that my BABY is letting go already.
I thought that I would have the power to slow this year down. I always told myself "my baby's first year wont go as fast as everyone always warned me about" but that is one thing I cannot control.
Last year I brought you home on an oddly cold day in August. It was so windy, almost like a fall day. I remember walking in our home with you and just feeling totally complete. I remember putting you in your bassinet and staring at you for hours upon hours. I remember looking forward to 3 am feedings because it was "our time" together. It was like the rest of the world didn’t even exist. It was me and my baby girl, and it was all that mattered.
For the rest of my life Megan Lynn, I promise to teach you the best way that I can. I promise to always be here for you, through the ups and downs, the milestones that are yet to come, to know when to hold your hand and know when to let go. I thank you for making me realize the person that I can be in life. I’ve been spending the past week looking at your baby book. Your first smile, the first time you laughed, the first time you rolled, your first tooth, your first shots, when you first slept through the night, when you first stood up and I wonder where the time went. How did one whole year just pass us by when I tried to convince myself that I had the power to make it last???
So here we are. as I try to choose the perfect cake with the perfect gifts to make your day as special as it can be. I know you won’t remember this actual day in the future but I want you to look back at the pictures and letters and know that you have changed me forever. For as long as I live, no matter what goes wrong or right in life, no matter the obstacles that lie ahead for us, I know that I will be able to get through it because you have provided me with a strength that I never knew I was capable of possessing.
So today my baby girl, I will hug you and kiss you like every other. I will pick you up out of your crib in the morning and put you back down at night. Today I will be overcome with emotions from sheer happiness to utter disbelief that my angel has been a part of our lives for one whole year. And when you taste your first piece of cake or get excited over Pablo who SINGS AND SPINS (backyardigans in case we forget years from now), I will look at you in awe, as I have since the second they placed you in my arms. You are my world, my reason. You, my dear Megan, are Mommy’s miracle, Mommy’s sunshine, Mommy’s ANGEL. And for the rest of your days to come, for the rest of your many birthdays, I will always take the time to look you in your eyes and tell you that you have made my life complete.
