How do you deal with people who suck the life out of you?
do you just stop talking to the person?? I have a friend-it's always been about her and has never changed (since HS) I think it's time I move on.. don't know how to do it in a ncie way...
TIA!

Since I am an avoid confrontation kind of person, I would probably just keep ignorning calls, emails, etc.
Lame, I know.

Re: I am sure this has been posted before..
This happened to me last year. I called her up and told her that I cannot prolong our friendship and gave her the reasons why and tell her I wish her the best of luck. I was really sad about ending the friendship but it was very necessary. Certain friendships you must let go of especially when it is becoming draining and stagnant especially in my case.

I agree, the avoiding thing always works. There's really no nice, easy, clean way to "break up" with a friend.

Re: I am sure this has been posted before..
I had one friend who would bring more negativity into my life then positiveness and eventually i couldnt take it anymore and i just avoided talking to her altogether..sometimes i still feel guilty but i think back to the times when she made me miserable and i realize its not worth having a friend like that..we had very different views on what constitutes a friendship and sometimes pple r not ment to be in ur life 4ever

Re: I am sure this has been posted before..
I recently "broke up" with a friend. I had known her for like 20 years and in that time the friendship was one sided. I finally had enough of this girl hurting me so I stopped calling her and what not.
Now I avoid situations where I know she will be. We still do have a friend in common and its sad that I miss all of this friends functions because of her.

Re: I am sure this has been posted before..
thanks for the feedback everyone!
I have a similar situation... she's been hurting me recently, and did this in the past. We didn't talk for a while, and Id ecided to give her another chance, years later.
Things never changed! I think it's time I just "break up" with her!
Thank you again! you ladies are the best!

I have cut them out of my life and when family members are like this, I have learned to accepit them as never changing and deal with them a different way so that it doesn't stress me out.

Re: I am sure this has been posted before..
I had someone like this in my life just recently. I started temping my job last Oct. and became fast friends with someone who was very loud, but I thought really nice (so you learn to overlook certain things). She went thru some really hard times, got evicted, money troubles, marriage troubles and I think her husband beats her. I tried to help her turn her life around, get on a budget, get into counciling, get her weight under control. Then after about 6-8 months, she would constantly scream at me at work, and just be generally nasty....one day she screamed at me across the office and I had it. I walked away from her, but 15 minutes later I was still fuming mad, walked over to her desk - and just said, I'M DONE!!!!!!!!! Do not ask me for anything, to do anything....I'M DONE.
I still work in the same place and we have not spoken in about 2-3 months...it is so much better for me - she was such a downer and didn't want to do anything about it.

Me too...It was the best decision I ever made. Relationships should enhance your life, otherwise, what is the purpose?

Re: I am sure this has been posted before..
I'm sorry you are going through this I was in a similar situation and finally told my "friend" that my life was too busy to be filled with the drama our friendship was creating. That was the end of it. Good luck!
