I can NOT believe my little newborn baby is already eating cereal.... mommy reflection and also some questions

How did this little teeny baby that was just in my belly yesterday start getting ready for real food???

How did this happen? How???? Chat Icon

So, ok, I have started with the rice cereal. I mix it with so much formula its just thick slop in a bowl, and he spits out half of it. I have him wash it down with sips from his bottle.

I'm assuming I'm doing this right? And some of it winds up in his belly so he will stop crying for a bottle every 11 seconds?

Also, this little guy is ALL chub... does eating more solids make him chubbier, or what?

Not that I care - I love his lovely baby lumps (as I call them in true Black Eyed Peas style) but I don't want him turning violet violet.

what I do it mix about 1 1/2 ounces of formula and then just enough rice cereal to thicken it a bit...Is he opening his mouth for you when you bring the spoon close. I read somewhere that you are supposed to just touch the spoon to his lips and let him suck the cereal off the spoon, but for me if Mikayla opens up, in the spoon goes....it is messy and they have some trouble with the spoon in the beginning but it gets better

That's what I read too.

I think starting solids chunks them up a lot. DS was an oompa loompa when he was a baby after starting solids. Now he's 50lbs soaking wet Chat Icon

Only if the tongue thrust is happening. Some of it he swallows, some of it trickles out of his mouth.

I have seen pics of some of these babies eating solid food. Most of it is worn Chat Icon

Thats what I'm doing! He mostly sucks, and he is beginning to open his mouth for it now - I think he is really starting to like the taste... and he is swallowing it. Its more like thickish formula than actual cereal....But he will still stick his tongue out because I'm confusing him by washing it dowen with the bottle, but he is happy the whole time, and the food is staying down.... Then you are doing it right, I think it is trial and error...he may get a bit bound up.

The doctor told me that they gain most of their weight from formula, not solids. That's as far as baby food goes, not table food.

I think you are doing it right. DD spit it out at first and cried. That's totally normal. It took DD quite some time to get used to it and I felt like I couldn't get it in her mouth fast enough because she was used to her bottle and was so hungry. Keep at it and he'll get used to it!Chat Icon

I always started it really thick because thats how my babies liked it. If I make it too watery-like, then he spits it out. He also may just need some time to adjust eating off a spoon! Good luck!

DD skipped cereal for the same reason and went straight to foods instead. i even tried adding fruit, she was having none of that.

DD likes the ceral with fruit a little thick. I was adding more formula to make it soupy in the begining and she hated it.. when I made it thicker she cries between every bit I can't get it in fast enough.... It is the funniest thing

I found that Luca didn't like it watery, but he loved it a little thicker. Try making it more like an oatmeal consistency.
