So stupid. when I was in Jr high, we had a blizzard and I swear the snow was up to my thighs leaving school. They kept it open. Amazing.

Re: I can't believe schools are already closed!!
I have about an inch on the ground already where I am.
I do know around my area they will close the schools if they know a bad storm is coming as where I live the roads are very steep and windy, making it difficult for the school buses.

Re: I can't believe schools are already closed!!
As a teacher I would always rather the districts err on the side of caution and be wrong than send us and students in and have a horrific time driving home.
We would all feel horrible if a bus crashed due to snow (heaven forbid)

Ridiculous... truly ridiculous.
it's really not depending on the district.
where i work 100% of students are entitled to a bus and i'd say about 90% of kids come on the bus. and the area is VERY hilly.
it is not safe for all of those buses to drive in snow, ice, etc. heaven forbid there would ever be a bus accident and people would be up in arms that the district should have closed ahead of time because they knew the storm was coming. there could be kids hurt/killed.
so i'd rather they err on the side of caution when you're talking about the lives of children.
every district has to do what's best for the safety and welfare of the children.

Re: I can't believe schools are already closed!!
Better Safe than sorry.. They do have designated snow days, so why not use them. When my dd is in school.. and they report possible weather like this.. I wouldnt be putting her on a bus. I would be a nervous reck the entire day.

Re: I can't believe schools are already closed!!
Considering I had to leave work very early to get home in time for Damien's early dismissal and sat by my front door nervously awaiting his bus. I am glad they let them out early.

Re: I can't believe schools are already closed!!
I don't understand why people get annoyed at schools closing because of snow. Sure there was no snow this morning, but by the afternoon, the roads were terrible - JUST as the weather reports stated it would! Schools include snow days for a reason - why not use them? There are many years they never get used! I think it's fabulous that schools are cautious and not willing to put childrens' lives at risk! The community I work in has some really hilly areas, and the buses would have had a really hard time getting the kids home safely. Good for the schools willing to close to keep the kids safe!!
