I just feel that some cops throw around there power and use excessive force way too often.
i'll agree with that - but in this case, it was justified, because he had no way of knowing what he was dealing with.
I think it was justified to an extent.

because most of the time they are dealing with dangerous people, not the average citizen, so they need to use force.
It often looks excessive to tha average person b/c we are not used to having to deal with those types of situations.

No I think it looks excessive because in some cases it is excessive.

I also saw her this morning.
She was turning into the entrance to the hospital so that is your first clue that she is not lying.
And her reasoning was that he had all her info and they could give her the ticket later.
I would not have sat there and waited for him to write a ticket while thinking my father was dying.
I agree with you... I don't know if I would've had the guts to pull away though, but then again, I've never been in that frame of mind before (knock on wood).

it's seems that i'm a minority here.
i saw it on good morning america. she was on this morning.
i fell that SHE is the one who was wrong! he doesn't know who/what she is or if she's lying. his life is on the line every day.
yes, he was a bit rough, but put yourself in his shoes. how many cops don't get KILLED when they pull someone over.
she should have just sat there and let hime do his job quickly. it's not like she could save her father's life at that point.
jmho
you're not in the minority - ITA
I agree as well. She should have just waited.

Re: I can't believe this story...
I know that the one time my father was rushed to the hospital I was a hysterical mess up until the minute I was by his side (and I threw the mother of all fits when the security guard didn't want to let me into the ICU), but I would NEVER drive away if I was pulled over. NEVER. I'd cry my eyes out, beg and plead with him/her to let me go, but I wouldn't drive away.
He definitely used excessive force, and the comment was really low IMO, but she was equally wrong. How is a cop supposed to react when you pull away? If she had been dangerous and had harmed someone, we'd all be screaming "why didn't the cop go after her!"

Well, I think he went off the handle which is very scary.
so did she, which caused him to react, because there was no way for him to know if she was lying and she did nothing to help her case
Who cares if she was lying-any decent human being, cop or not, could have let her go into the hospital check on her father and then give her the ticket. Also its not like she was getting pulled over for waving a gun around. She was speeding

I'm sorry, but I CARE VERY MUCH if she was lying. If she was lying, the cop would have been 100000% in the right!

Please refer to the rest of my comment-she was getting pulled over for speeding IN FRONT OF THE HOSPITAL not for waving a gun, robbing a store, kidnapping, etc.
It would have been very easy for him to prove if she was lying by going into the hospital for 5 minutes so this is a moot point. Hey JMO

Re: I can't believe this story...
I can certainly see both sides of this story.
However... She was reckless!
Driving 30mph over the speed limit & pulling away from a police officer is irresponsible behavior.
I can sympathize with her situation but come on.... Was he really supposed to let her go inside the hospital and wait for her to come out to give her a ticket??? That would be crazy.
People have situations like this everyday, unfortunately the right thing for a police officer to is to treat everyone and every situation the same.
It's unfortunate that she is a good person, made a mistake and paid for it a little harshly.
Had it been someone trying to hurt themselves, the officer or someone else I wouldn't see it as harsh or excessive treatment.

I did read the whole story, and that was my first thought too, but I'm not a cop - I don't see the worst of the worst every day.
Just for argument's sake, if I were speeding and happened to get pulled over near a hospital it would be a great cover up to say my dad just had a heart attack, wouldn't it? Instead of, say, going to visit my friend in the maternity ward. Not as urgent now, is it? But I've still lied AND drove away from a cop after he pulled me over. What else am I capable of? Who knows. The cop certainly doesn't, and it's his responsibility to make sure she doesn't harm anyone.

and if the cop had followed her inside and she was lying and pulled out a gun and started shooting, we'd all be screaming
cop was in the right here.
