I cant find a decent car deal for Florida
and its getting so close to the day we leave. I am looking at over 500 bucks. That is almost 1.5 of my monthly car payments. Any ideas?? any codes??? Ive found alamo always to be cheapest but not this time.

Re: I cant find a decent car deal for Florida
Where in Fl are you going? When we went to WDW at the end of sept/beginning of oct we were originally getting quotes for $350 and up for 9 days. But around 20-30 days before the trip the rates started to go down - they went down for about a week then back up again. My parents got a full size from National emerald reserve (you go to the full size aisle and pick any car) for $90 for 8 days and we got a 7 (ended up with an 8 person) person minivan for $150 for the 9 days (also thru national).
We had ressies for both national and alamo but cancelled the alamo b.c we got the better deal with national.
If you go to mousesavers.com she lists codes for all the different companies - I would think many of them are good for locations other than MCO. I used a national coupon for something like $30 off and a AAA code that was on the website. I know entertainment book, costco also give good discounts - some companies you can mix and match the corporate code and the coupon - so you don't have to use two of the same. I also play around and see what gets the best deals. Interesting I found for example with certain codes I could get a minivan for MUCH less than a small or standard SUV. A lot of it is trial and error. So you can mix a Costco coupon with the AAA corporate code.
Also if you want to do emerald reserve/aisle - NO lines you just walk right into the garage and to the car lane you reserved (i.e. emerald aisle, full size, compact, Minivan etc) and pick out any car on that aisle get in and drive to the exit where they check you out - it is SO fast and easy. Mousesavers has a free code to join (otherwise it is I think $50).
BTW as time gets closer I find often national will beat an alamo price (although they are owned by the same company).

I just got married in FL and all of my guests used Priceline and got GREAT deals...I'm talking 10-15 dollars a day. Definitely place a bid on Priceline.

Try Hotwire or Priceline. I rarely ever book directly through rental car companies.

How does priceline work? If I bid 10 bucks a day x 14 day= 140 for 2 weeks but then do they add like 500 in tax and fees...bc Ive seen that nonsense.

You will pay taxes on top of the base rate no matter who you book thru. Priceline can get you some good deals - but be aware that depending on where you are renting (say MCO for example) that some of the companies are off site and require you to take a shuttle to get there, whereas other companies are right across from baggage pick up at the airport itself.

I am also looking for a minvan at the orlando airport and so far everything is a little over $300. I would love to find a deal for $150.

Re: I cant find a decent car deal for Florida
I usually find the best deals through BJs or Costco with Alamo.
To rent in Orlando though - I've gotten the best deals through Dollar.
I've used Priceline before - you name your price, and that's what you pay. No hidden fees. Sometimes you can get really good deals through them - it depends on the availability. I usually start out fairly low and keep on re-submitting until I get up to my limit.

If you go to mousesavers.com and sign up for national - I was able to get a minivan on emerald reserve for $150 total (including taxes) for 8 days. The rates go down around 30 days before. Alamo was cheaper until all of a sudden nationals rates came down.
Also check out disboards.com - on the transportation board -people post all the time what they are paying and when prices drop - I found watching that I was able to really make out.
My parents got a full size for under $100 with national - emerald reserve - which means no lines you just walk up to whatever row of cars you reserved and just pick one get in and drive to the exit and they do the paperwork quickly at the exit - we would have been in and out in 5 mins if DH hadn't taken forever to put the car seat in.
