I don't know what came over me-a little long

So we went to Wendy's tonight for dinner, and as I'm sitting with DH and DS, there is one of the workers sweeping up the dining area. DS was watching him intently, for some reason the broom and dust pan were AMAZING . The young man saw that B was watching him, so came closer just so DS could see what he was doing (DS is also very nosey).

Anyway, from ordering their meals, a teenage couple, I want to say around 16/17 ish sits down to eat their meal. And proceeds to throw a piece of trash on the floor, on purpose. The young man cleaning sweeps it up.

I watch the worker go to other areas and sweep up, and the male teenager rips off the end of the straw wrapper and blows into the straw so it flys on the ground. They seem to think this is hilarious. So the entire time we sit there, I'm watching them not pick this piece of paper up off the ground.

I tell DH I want to say something, he says don't. Now these two teenagers looked like good kids, but just trying to be 'funny' making the worker clean up after them.

As we leave, I walk right by their table and pick up the paper from the straw. I place it on their table and they both look at me. I say, "I know your parents taught you better than that. Stop throwing garbage on the floor." They were speechless and turned a few shades of pink.

I just found it very rude, and couldn't help myself. Maybe it is bc I would be embarrassed if my kid ever acted that way (in the future). I hope they were embarrassed enough to never do it again.

Just had to share bc I would have never done that when I was a teenager. I would have been slapped upside my head (plus I had enough respect for others not to).

Good for you for saying something - I would have wanted to but probably would have just left seething and wished I had to courage to tell them off.

Good for you. You did not lose your calm or call them names. They should be ashamed of themselves.

ETA: A Target co-worker was in line at the pizza hut express section. I was in line being her for a quick meal for myself. She started opening the pizza boxes to check them out. The words just came out of my mouth. I asked her if she was going to touch all the boxes. She said she was not "touching" them. I responded to her that she was and that I was not sure she could do that. She should have known better. I just could not believe she was going to open all the boxes to inspect the pizzas.

janine i think that was absolutely fantastic!! you were not mean or rude, you just pointed out how NOT nice they were being, and how you knew they were better than that

i bet they think twice next time! good for you!

I agree that you did the right thing. I'm not sure I would have had the guts, but I would have been disgusted, too. This sense of entitlement that kids have these days is AMAZING to me.

I was in the grocery store and two teenage girls were walking around, one had a large bag and was walking through the dairy aisle, her bag hit into all of the yogurts and knocked them on the floor. They just looked and laughed. It took every ounce that I had in me to not knock them upside the head.

You're good. I would have said the same thing to DH, I could see him telling me don't, and me just giving them dirty looks. I think what you did was great!
