I dont understand-preschool post
I am not clear...pre school is cheaper then daycare? I see a poll for 500 and less and then 600+ for a month yet daycare is 1000 and up no matter where ou end up. Is preschool different? and why is it cheaper?

Re: I dont understand-preschool post
I didn't read the other post but preschool for my almost-2 and almost-3-yr olds is only 9am-12pm and is therefore wayyy cheaper than daycare. prices vary depending on how many days the children are at school, but the hrs are always the same. a daycare will charge for the full day regardless of how many hrs the child is there, usually.

Correct..at "preschool" age, she would be learning preschool stuff from her daycare (provided that they offer a curriculum).

Re: I dont understand-preschool post
Its not local, but my sons preschool offers the traditional 2.5 hr classes for 3's and 4's - but it also has other programs ie 3's full day 2 days or 4's full day everyday M-F 9am-3pm that is $380 month. And also "extended day" which is 8am-5pm
they also offer Kindergarten and 1st grade.
so some schools may offer other choices for you.

Re: I dont understand-preschool post
Also, as the kids get older, they need less adult supervision per child. I don't remember the exact numbers, but more staff is needed for infants than toddlers, and less are needed for preschool aged DC. Less adults = less cost.

Re: I dont understand-preschool post
Pre-school is usually only a few hours.
Daycare can be a 6am-6pm time frame.

I've never heard of an 8 hour preschool day- regular school isn't even 8 hours.
Preschool has a curriculum that follows the general education curriculum for your county's public schools. Daycare MAY have a curriculem that targets preschool skills- but isn't required to do so.

Not usually, unless it's ran out of a daycare facility and then the cost would be the same as daycare.

At my dd's school you wouldn't get those hours even if you paid for all for 4 weekly sessions (MWF 9-11:30 & 12-2:30 and TuTH 9-11:30 & 12-2:30). And then she'd be doing the same exact things 4x a week. They have an extended day session but it's 9-2 MWF or TuTH. Again you could pay for both to have her go 5 days, but it's not a replacement for daycare.
Also, our school will change poop diapers but won't change wet ones.

Re: I dont understand-preschool post
I know this hasn't been said, but I don't want the implication to be made that a daycare cannot provide a comprehensive preschool program and that it's in anyway inferior to a p/t preschool program. Sure many daycares run not so great programs, but I know for a fact there are many that are just as well, if not better, than regular preschool

Yes, I agree and I actually was considering checking out where your dd is multiple times. I couldnt bc I felt she was too young but I may do it within a yr or maybe next. The cirriculum there seems amazing. I see the changes in dd now and I am thinking she may need a little more... Now thats not considered preschool is it? Its still daycare, right?

Technically it's daycare, but you can call it whatever you want I call it "school" when I talk to Emma and DS always says "How was school today Emma!!" Preschool is not a requirement for elementary school, so I wouldn't fret over it! Whatever kind of program she is in, as long as it stimulates and teaches her would be just fine, regardless of what it is called!

Re: I dont understand-preschool post
The NY state regulations for child-adult rations are lower as they get older - so for babies you are paying for the extra staff that must be in the room... as they get older, it goes from 1 adult to 4 babies to 1 adult to 5-6 kids, maybe 8... thats the difference...

Re: I dont understand-preschool post
I think my overall misunderstanding was why the pre-school was so much cheaper but I get it...bc the hrs are shorter and the kids are more indpendent. Thanks for the info!

My boys are in preschool from 9am-3pm.
They then go to aftercare from 3-4.

The price isn't that much lower though. A full time infant where I am is 980 a month. I think by the time DD is preschool age, it's 100 less.
