I feel like the odd ball when it comes to food
I know I posted probably about a month or so ago about what foods do you give when. However the more I read, the more of an odd ball I feel like.
All this talk about pasta and when to graduate up. Jiavana had penne with a little sauce last weekend. I mean each penne was cut up into fifths or even smaller but she still ate it and loved it.
She has been eating cherrios and puffs for over a month now. She still has no teeth but does very well with both of them. She chews/gums her food and won't take more until she is done.
I give her almost everything for her to try especially when she shows interest.
I don't know..I guess I am just blabbing here because I feel funny that she is 6 mths and most of you are talking about your 10 month DC or older.
Anyway...on an exciting note!! Jiavana actually made hand/mouth connection today. She feed herself her cherrios/puffs one at a time!!!

I did the same...especially with my second.
As long as your child doesn't have known food allergies, and the food is cut up small enough (and they are not choking hazards), I see no problem with having children try different foods.
Just stay away from nuts, whole grapes, hotdogs, popcorn, honey (before 1 year of age), etc...it's fine.
Hopefully then they won't be such picky eaters then when they are older.

I'm with you - I give Ella (almost) everything. She's 8 months old now and will eat anything.
My MIL is always commenting on what a good eater she is, and how well she handles textures and pieces (compared to her cousins) - I think its because she was introduced to things early.
Its just my nature though - I don't necessarily follow the "rules".

Luca just started cereal last week (4 months) but I can totally see myself introducing foods early. I had him sucking on a potato wedge today at lunch.

Nope, same here... in fact, Lauren ate baked ziti tonight. I seem to be moving much faster with her because she is my second... Yes, she is 10 months, but she has been eating well since she was 6-7 months. She masters the sippy cup well now too, so I can't wait to get rid of the bottle when she can drink all her milk from the cup!

Re: I feel like the odd ball when it comes to food
Andrew is 9 months old and hasn't had any table food. I am waiting until he is older. I feel baby food is all he needs right now. He does eat puffs and yobaby but that is it besides formula and jarred food.
Every parent is different and I chose to wait for a lot of reasons

I agree. Gracie is 10 months old and she also has a pretty sensitive gag reflex. Even the peds in the practice we go to feel differently about this. One says wait 1 year to introduce table foods, another told me I could introduce table foods at 5 months. It drove me nuts. Then I read all the posts on here and felt as if Grace was behind all the other babies her age.
Well, I pretty much decided based on the fact that she has gagged on cheerios, puffs, teething biscuits, etc. that we will hold off on this. Maybe I will introduce it very slowly and see how it goes. I am done comparing her to other kids. I vowed I would NEVER do that to my DC and there I was doing it. After taking to the ped I feel the most comfortable with, I felt a whole lot better about this issue. HTH
P.S. She does eat YoBaby yogurt, mashed up banana, avocado, mango, as well as mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes when I make it for DH and I.

Re: I feel like the odd ball when it comes to food
I think it is great that you are introducing her to texture so early on and that she enjoys it. I really feel if you wait to long it takes longer for them to adapt to texture. DS is going to be 11 months on monday and he can eat foods but he doesnt like alot of stuff so for me it is more about finding something he likes to eat. I would give her any pasta you have on hand and not to worry about giving her pastina. We do not eat pasta much and he needed to be slowly introduced to texture.

Don't feel like the odd ball. I think it is great you are introducing her to such variety at a young age!
