I feel stupid asking this question, but can someone help me figure out how far along I am?

Okay, I know I got pregnant either July 6 or July 7. I am 99.9% sure.

So I figure I am about 4 to 5 weeks.

I see the doctor for the first time on Friday.

I know, I feel stupid asking, but people keep saying it goes back to your last AF. But I know when I conceived.

Can someone explain?

They always use your LMP. They may adjust your EDD based on your sonogram, but for now, it's LMP.

If you ovulated about July 6 or 7 and have a pretty "regular" cycle, you'd be over 6wks along.

Remember, you may have BD on July 7, but if you weren't charting and not sure of when you ovulated, sperm can live up to a few days - so it could be later.

from what I understand: How far along you are is based on your AF, which is why pregnancy is measured as being 40 weeks.

In my case I know my last AF was Jan 13, and I know I conceived Feb 1st. Based on this (using the Jan 13th date) my DD is October 22. I am 29 weeks right now, but the baby is considered something like 27 weeks (according to What to expect when you are expecting ).

BTW - Congrats!!

Re: I feel stupid asking this question, but can someone help me figure out how far along I am?

Before the days when women used OPKs and temperature charting, the only way to caluculate gestation was based on the first day of you last menstrual period. (LMP)

They still count it this way. So, it doesn't matter if you know when you conceived. Pregnancy is calculated on a 40 week period starting on the first day of LMP. Basically you are not PG for the first two weeks of the 40.

So, in your case, with a conception date of July 6 or 7, I'm guessing a LMP date of somewehre around June 16. IF that date is accurate you would be 7 weeks 3 days today.

That's exactly right, my LMP was June 16 or 17.

I know I wasn't pregnant on July 6 because I had gone to the Doctor to talk about TTC and they gave me a pregnancy test and it was negative.

But that weekend was well you know, a fun weekend.
Chat Icon So I am sure it was that weekend.

So my next question, is how do I figure out a due date or kinda when I will have the baby?

There's no way it would be positive at that point (if you BD on July 6 and got tested that day or even if you already ovulated and were about 6 days past ovulation).

If you're saying your LMP was June 16 or 17, that means you didn't ovulate until CD20-21 - is that right? Most MDs will calculate what they consider "avg" which is ovulating about CD14 or two weeks after the first day of your period. That would be about June 30 for ovulation.

A good rule of thumb is count backwards 3 months and add a week to your LMP. So, in your case, it would be March 23 or 24.

Okay, thank you all so much for explaining all of this to me. I really appreciate it, as you can tell I am new to all of this.

I honestly thought I would be able to spend some time on the TTC board and take some time to learn all of this.

Everything happened so fast.

I am excited and so is my DH!

Thank you all for your support and information, it means alot!

I am sure I will be asking a ton more questions!

Count 2 weeks before you concieved, when the egg first started to develop.

basically until your doctor tells you differently....

Take the first day of your last period.

Add 7 days...

Count back 3 months....

And that is your due date...
